Position Summary Provides custodial services at assigned site(s); ensures an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performs a variety of special cleaning operations, and assists in preparing facilities for classroom activities and building events. Essential Functions Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers, wash windows Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures Inspection and minor maintenance of playground equipment - as needed by grade-level building Daily setup and teardown of lunchroom tables. Remains present and assists during lunch periods Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies Setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc. Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets Grounds clean up and snow removal as necessary Helps to maintain building and door security Perform minor maintenance in the building Work collaboratively with building staff Create positive relationships with students and all building stakeholders Develops building a daily custodial plan. Leadership of the Leads and other custodial staff in cooperation with the Complex Custodian and the Operations Supervisor Other duties assigned by the building administrator or Operations supervisor Employment Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required Thorough working knowledge of custodial work, including cleaning methods and materials and the use of custodial equipment equivalent to that gained in at least one year of experience or a combination of education and experience Previous experience working in sanitation, custodial, or maintenance positions preferred Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the department team members, local travel in and around the school district, goal-setting ability, organizational skills, creative problem-solving ability, systematic planning, and the ability to plan for future needs Previous custodial experience is preferred but not required Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. The use of ladders, power equipment, and other hand tools is a requirement of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers. Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to a variety of conditions including wet or humid, work near moving parts, work in high, precarious places, a variety of cleaning agents, some hazardous chemicals and fumes, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens.
