Aug 1, 2026 Job Description Date Posted May 15, 2026 Position Details (342.501) Head Custodian, North Brook Elementary School Permanent / full-time / 8 hours per day / 12-months / benefit eligible Position Available August 1, 2026 Reports To Principal Salary / FLSA / Non-Exempt Grade 59 ($2,853.10 - $3,850.14 per month); plus local supplement The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant's years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system may not be recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools' pay scale. Qualifications / Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and TB test before starting employment. Ability to work independently and to supervise custodian staff assuring building is maintained at all times Ability to follow written and oral instructions Ability to read, write and keep records Ability to perform simple calculations Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects General knowledge and skills of cleaning methods, materials and equipment, and physical ability to use equipment (i.e. floor stripper, waxer, power buffer, etc.) Not restricted from climbing ladders General knowledge of routine maintenance requirements of buildings (bathrooms, offices, classrooms) Willing to clean after students (in all situations) Ability to identify cleaning needs and address with appropriate methods and supplies Duties Performs a variety of manual activities, in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules including: cleaning and maintaining buildings; maintenance of grounds Independent tasks in unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance functions, such as delivery of supplies, materials, and equipment; making minor equipment repairs; reports needed maintenance and repair of equipment Work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, noise, hazards associated with maintenance and equipment operations, gases, oils, and fumes Responsible for the timely completion of assignments at sites/schools Duties include but not limited to: loading and unloading trucks; cleaning and sanitizing space and equipment; transporting equipment and general warehouse duties as may be required; verifying delivery orders for accuracy against written delivery invoices or work orders; placement of delivered items; delivers supplies to staff as assigned; maintains equipment according to schedule; assumes responsibility for maintaining sufficient levels of fuel, oil and other fluids vital to the proper functioning of equipment assigned; performs other duties as assigned Work is supervised by Principal, Assistant Principal, or other designee, and is reviewed through inspections, observations, work review and discussions, feedback from school personnel, and completion of projects and tasks Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with administration, staff, and co-workers Other duties as assigned Application Deadline Open Until Filled Application Process All candidates are required to complete an on-line application via Applicant Tracking.
