Company Overview Vertically integrated real estate developer headquartered in Central Florida with a 20+ year track record in self-storage development. The organization has delivered 4.5MM+ SF, created $700MM+ in value, and operates 17 facilities in partnership with major national storage brands. The company's in-house general contractor and steel procurement division are core to its execution strategy. As the business continues to scale, the organization is seeking a senior construction leader to run and grow the GC operation. The Opportunity We are seeking a Head of Construction to lead the company's general contracting division. This is an opportunity for a construction operator who wants to run a business — own the P&L, build the team, refine operational systems, and drive performance. Compensation is structured around results. The base salary is competitive, with significant bonus upside directly tied to delivering projects on schedule and under budget. Who We're Looking For We are seeking an entrepreneurial construction leader who operates with an ownership mentality rather than an employee mindset. Qualifications & Experience 10+ years of commercial construction experience with meaningful responsibility managing projects from preconstruction through closeout Proven experience building or scaling a construction operation, including hiring teams, implementing systems, increasing volume, and improving margins Experience with self-storage, light industrial, retail, or similar single-story commercial construction products Strong operational and financial acumen with the ability to improve margins while maintaining quality and safety standards Track record of earning trust with field teams, subcontractors, design partners, and ownership groups Comfortable operating in a performance-driven environment with compensation tied to results Key Responsibilities Construction Delivery Full P&L responsibility for the general contracting operation Accountability for schedule, budget, and quality outcomes across all active projects Direct leadership of superintendents, project managers, and field staff Provide owner-side reporting and communication regarding project status Build the Operation Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing construction team capable of supporting company growth Develop and standardize estimating, scheduling, procurement, and field execution processes Build and manage subcontractor and vendor relationships Partner with internal procurement teams on steel purchasing strategy and cost optimization Drive Performance Deliver projects on or ahead of schedule Meet or exceed project budgets, with bonus compensation directly tied to performance Identify opportunities to improve margins, shorten project timelines, and reduce execution risk Work closely with executive leadership on operational strategy and long-term growth initiatives Authority & Autonomy This position operates with the autonomy of a business unit leader rather than a traditional project manager.
Responsibilities Include:
Full authority over schedule, budget, and field execution within approved project parameters Authority to hire, manage, and direct construction staff and subcontractors Authority to negotiate and recommend contracts, subject to executive approval on legal and material financial terms Direct access to ownership and executive leadership for strategic decision-making
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$135,000 - $150,000 + additional $200k - $400k
Performance Bonus:
Significant upside tied directly to project delivery performance, including projects completed under budget and on or ahead of schedule while meeting quality and safety standards
