SUMMARY:
The Head Softball Coach is responsible for coaching, management and administration of all phases of the East Texas A&M University Softball program and team within the guidelines, rules and regulations of the University, Southland Conference (SLC) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Scouts and recruits quality student-athletes. Coordinates recruiting activities with the Athletic Director or designated sport supervisor. Develops working relationships with faculty and university staff to assist in the recruiting process. Responsible for the search, selection and training of qualified assistant coaches with the approval of the Athletic Director in accordance with all University, personnel and action programs and procedures. Directs and manages assistant coaches. Conducts annual coaching staff evaluations and recommends merit increases to the Athletic Director Trains and coaches the members of the Softball program. Organizes and schedules practice sessions and games with approval of the Athletic Director. Manages field care and maintenance. Uses working knowledge of skills to prepare game and practice plans to benefit the growth of the student-athletes. Assists and encourages student-athletes in pursuit of academic and athletic excellence. Oversees the academic progress of the student-athlete in conjunction with the academic advisor. Counsels all student-athletes as needed in academic, disciplinary and personal matters Presents annual budget requirements to the Athletic Director and is accountable for expense control compliance and administration of the Softball program. Participates in East Texas A&M University public relations activities including print, television and radio interviews and news conferences as requested. Assists in fundraising efforts for the athletic program and generates additional funds for support of the program. Represents East Texas A&M University in professional, civic, charity and alumni events. Reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies and guidelines. Valid Driver's license
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree.
Experience / Knowledge
/
Skills:
Five (5) years demonstrated successful experience in playing and/or coaching at the collegiate, university or professional level. Division I or II experience with fundraising initiatives. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student-athletes academically and athletically. Knowledge and experience with NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Proven ability to recruit quality student-athletes. Ability to work with a wide variety of people. Ability to travel and work on nights and weekends.
Licensing/Professional Certifications:
Valid driver's license.

Master's Degree. Three to five years collegiate coaching experience including effective leadership, communication, coaching and recruiting skills is preferred.
