Job Description

Director of Health Information Management (HIM) Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Health Information Management (HIM) to lead and oversee all aspects of the HIM department within a healthcare system environment. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, accessibility, and security of health information across acute and ambulatory settings. The Director will oversee medical record processing, coding operations, release of information, transcription, indexing, chart completion, trauma registry functions, physician suspension processes, and overall HIM workflow management. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, deep knowledge of medical coding and HIM operations, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, operational, and executive leadership teams. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and oversight for all HIM department operations Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, HIPAA guidelines, and organizational policies Oversee medical record processing, completion, indexing, storage, retrieval, and release of information Manage acute and ambulatory coding operations to ensure accuracy and timeliness Supervise transcription, trauma registry, and physician suspension processes Develop, implement, and maintain HIM policies and procedures Monitor department performance and identify opportunities for workflow improvement Collaborate with leadership and staff across departments to support operational goals Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of patient health information QualificationsRequired Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Science or related field (or active plan to complete degree) Minimum of 5 years of management or supervisory experience Minimum of 5 years of medical coding experience Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificationPreferred Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification Experience with HIPAA regulations and compliance Experience leading HIM operations within a healthcare system or hospital setting Benefits Comprehensive benefits package includes: Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance 401(k) Retirement Plan Paid Time Off & Holiday Pay Tuition Assistance & Student Loan Support Short-Term & Long-Term Disability Wellness Programs & Employee Assistance Program Leadership Development Opportunities Employee Discounts & Additional Voluntary Benefits If you are a collaborative HIM leader looking to make an impact in a dynamic healthcare environment, we encourage you to apply.
