JOB•5921 Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager Greater Chicago Heights, IL Area | On-Site Manufacturing Environment A growing industrial manufacturing organization is seeking a hands-on Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead environmental compliance, plant safety initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts at a large-scale production facility. This role is a key member of the plant leadership team and will drive site-wide compliance, safety culture, and regulatory performance in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Lead all site health, safety, and environmental compliance activities Manage and maintain environmental permits, reporting, and documentation, including: Title V air permits Water and wastewater programs Stormwater / NPDES compliance Solid and hazardous waste programs Serve as the primary liaison with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies Develop and improve HSE procedures, training programs, audits, and compliance systems Lead safety meetings, plant inspections, investigations, and corrective actions Drive a strong floor-based safety culture through daily plant engagement and employee interaction Support risk assessments, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives Partner closely with plant leadership to ensure operational and regulatory excellence Qualifications 5+ years of HSE leadership experience within heavy industrial or manufacturing environments Strong environmental compliance experience required, including hands-on Title V air permitting Experience managing environmental reporting, documentation, and regulatory interactions Proven ability to lead plant-floor safety initiatives in a hands-on capacity Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, air, water, and waste regulations Experience with HSE systems, audits, investigations, and risk assessments Continuous improvement background preferred (Lean / Six Sigma) Bachelor's degree preferred in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science, or related field; equivalent experience considered Preferred Background Heavy industrial manufacturing experience strongly preferred Experience with landfill, wastewater, or metals/recycling operations is a plus Spanish-speaking ability is a plus Compensation & Benefits Base salary + Bonus Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage 401(k) eligibility begins immediately Long-term growth opportunities across plant and corporate operations Additional Details On-site leadership role with high visibility and direct interaction across plant operations Standard schedule typically falls between early morning day-shift hours, with occasional off-shift support as needed for a 24/7 operation Candidates must be comfortable in a highly hands-on manufacturing environment with significant plant-floor presence #LP
