Job Description

Summary:
The Health & Safety Sr. Specialist supports site safety performance by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling workplace safety and health hazards in a manufacturing environment. This role serves as a technical resource responsible for implementing safety programs, conducting field audits, supporting incident investigations, exposure monitoring and ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable state regulations. The Senior Safety & Health Specialist partners with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership to reduce risk, improve safety culture, and strengthen hazard prevention systems across production and administrative areas.
Responsibilities:
Lead site industrial hygiene programs including identification, evaluation, and control of chemical, particulate, noise, and physical exposure hazards Implement and maintain site safety programs in alignment with company standards and regulatory requirements Conduct air monitoring, noise dosimetry, and other industrial hygiene sampling activities Analyze exposure data and recommend engineering, administrative, or PPE controls Maintain exposure records and ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable state requirements Support respiratory protection program implementation, including fit testing coordination and medical clearance processes Conduct ergonomic risk assessments for production and administrative roles Evaluate workstation design, manual handling tasks, and repetitive motion exposures Develop and recommend ergonomic improvements and engineering controls Partner with engineering and operations during new equipment installation to incorporate ergonomic best practices Track ergonomic-related incidents and drive corrective actions Support OSHA compliance across all production and administrative areas Conduct routine safety inspections and jobsite audits to identify unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors Track and verify completion of corrective and preventive actions Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), risk assessments, and task-based safety evaluations Evaluate chemical, mechanical, electrical, ergonomic, and process-related hazards Partner with engineering and operations during equipment installation or process changes to identify and mitigate safety risks Support contractor safety compliance and oversight This role supports essential manufacturing and construction operations and may require working extended hours, weekends, or participating in coordination meetings outside standard business hours to support project execution and global collaboration when required. Participate in and lead incident investigations related to injuries, near misses, and property damage Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions Maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping (300/300A/301 logs) in coordination with leadership Support workers' compensation case documentation and follow-up Deliver safety and health training including new hire orientation, hazard communication, PPE, lockout/tagout, and other OSHA-required programs Support development and delivery of toolbox talks and safety awareness initiatives Promote employee participation in safety improvement initiatives Serve as a safety resource for supervisors and team members Conduct daily safety walks to monitor compliance and reinforce safe work practices Support emergency response planning and drills Assist in layered process audits and compliance reviews Support KPI tracking related to IRR, DART, LTIR, near-miss reporting, and safety performance metrics Identify trends in incidents and recommend proactive mitigation strategies Support or lead applicable PSM elements including PHA, MOC, and process risk mitigation activities. Manage and maintain EHS electronic management systems for incident tracking, corrective actions, training records, and compliance reporting. Assist in development and revision of safety procedures and policies Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field required ASP, CSP or advance degree preferred Equivalent relevant manufacturing safety experience may be considered
Experience:
7+ years of safety experience in a manufacturing or highly regulated industrial environment Experience with
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119
Process Safety Management (PSM) preferred (or required, if deemed appropriate). Experience using EHS management software systems (e.g., Intelex, Enablon, Sphera, Gensuite, or similar platforms). Experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations Experience working with OSHA regulations and state/local compliance requirements Exposure to chemical, electrical, mechanical, and automation-related hazards preferred
Skills:
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems Ability to analyze technical data, safety metrics, and incident reports Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to influence supervisors and operators toward safe behaviors MS Office Suite proficiency Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production operations Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for a period of up to 12 hours: Safety glasses Steel-toed shoes Nitrile gloves Ear protection Cleanroom suit Must be able to perform the following activities repeatedly for periods of up to 12 hours: Lift, push, and pull materials or equipment Stoop, twist, and bend Reach overhead Sit and/or stand for extended periods Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems
Work Environment:
Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals. Exposure to chemical vapors, dust, or other controlled substances may occur depending on process assignment. Strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory. Employees must properly wear and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times within designated areas. Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment. Exposure to noise, heat, mechanical equipment, and industrial chemicals may occur depending on system location. Work may occur in mechanical rooms, utility areas, rooftops, or other industrial environments.
