SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision the Anesthesia Technician assists physicians in the application of anesthesia and to calibrate, monitor, troubleshoot, clean and sterilize various anesthesia equipment. May provide routine and emergency services for anesthesiologists. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
NOTE:
The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. 1. Ensures daily maintenance and service of all electronic and mechanical equipment. 2. Demonstrates understanding of the use and function, ability to set up and/or operate, and troubleshoot equipment such as anesthesia machines, air shield ventilators, and cardiac monitors. General up-keep of machines, refill anesthetic vaporizers; check and change soda line canisters as needed, check and change oxygen, nitrous and air tanks as needed. 3. Prepare procedure trays such as CVP, arterial line and Swan Ganz. 4. Ensures equipment that is found to be inoperable following standard procedure check is reported to the proper person, acts as a liaison with the equipment vendors for sales, preventative maintenance, and repair. 5. Appropriately removes and disposes of all relevant supplies and equipment following use, exchanging clean for soiled or dirty parts between cases, and restocking room carts. 6. Practices aseptic technique. 7. Cleans and restocks assigned area of the workroom, and assists in ordering supplies for that area. 8. Assists in the correct and safe positioning of the patient for the operating procedure to be performed. 9. Assists with ventilatory support in transporting patients. 10. Assist with I-stat and glucometer blood tests per anesthetist's request; calibrate machines daily. 11. Assist with monitoring and transporting post-op ICU patients back to unit. 12. Maintain and update anesthesia logbook from anesthesia records. 13. Keeps records of preventative maintenance or all anesthesia machines and monitors. 14. Orders supplies and equipment for anesthesia department. 15. Check drug supply for outdated drugs. 16. Keep anesthesia workroom clean and organized.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or GED certificate Required.
Minimum Experience:
One-year experience as an anesthesia technician, or sufficient training for anesthesia technologist.
Preferred License/Certifications:
Certificate of completion sponsored by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
