Worker Sub Type Regular Work Shift First Shift (United States of America) Pay Grade Job Description The Anesthesia Technologist performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist Anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia to patients ranging from infants to geriatric. The Anesthesia Technologist works under the supervision of an Anesthesiologist or CRNA to facilitate safe and effective anesthesia, ensures that the environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that anesthesia is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Responsibilities and Duties Assists licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. Contributes to safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of anesthesia care. Provides support in anesthesia for routine and complex surgical cases by preparing and maintaining patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia. Operates a variety of mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic equipment used to monitor, evaluate, and manage the patient undergoing anesthesia. Appropriately trained individuals may perform inspection, maintenance of inventories, and service record and provide support with pressure monitoring, auto-transfusion, laboratory functions such a point-of-care testing (POCT), equipment maintenance and servicing such as cleaning, sterilization, assembling, calibrating and testing, troubleshooting, requisitioning and recording of inspections and maintenance. Education High School Diploma or GED is required. Graduation from a program approved by the American Association of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists (ASATT) is preferred. Experience 2 years of Healthcare/Medical - Technologist experience is preferred. Previous anesthesia experience is preferred. Certification & Licensures BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is required within one (1) year of hire. Qualifications Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to assist licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia required. Ability to prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia required. Capable of a level of self-direction and supervision that is commensurate with their training required. Expertise in the theory and application of sterile technique, knowledge of human anatomy, anesthesia procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures is required.
