JOB GOAL
Provide athletic training for Wilton High School athletic programs. The athletic trainer will perform the role within the parameters of the Connecticut Athletic Trainers Licensing Law as outlined by the Department of Public Health and will follow both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. These duties are based on the needs of the school and its athletic programs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish an effective athletic training program for high school athletics. Provide First-aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation/reconditioning for Wilton High School student-athletes. The athletic trainer will also be responsible for making appropriate physician referral. Provide on field coverage during practice and the majority of home games. Supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons. Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries. Present during the fall, winter and spring pre-season parent meeting. Present during the fall, winter and spring pre-season coaches meeting. Maintain an effective and efficient athletic training room. Maintain communication with parents on the care & treatment of their student-athlete. File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents. Maintain a daily treatment log. Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athletic training room and maintain an up to date inventory. Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment. Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment, including special taping, pads or braces. Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks. Share professional literature relative to athletic training with the school's coaching staff. Follow the return to play protocol with any student/athlete exhibiting signs of a concussion. Regularly utilize formal and informal tools to assess student mental health. Coordinate care of students who express signs of mental distress with their guidance counselor. Provide movement screens to identify those at greater risk of injury. Annually perform weight certification for wrestlers. Monitor weather conditions (heat and lightning), and alert coaches when conditions become unsafe. Perform taping and bracing and splinting on injured student athletes. Ensure that modalities are inspected and calibrated. Collaborate with school physicians and local first responders to implement an emergency action plan (EAP) to ensure response to an emergency is rapid, appropriate, controlled and precise. Educate the physical education department on how to teach proper lifting techniques and appropriate program design.
WORK YEAR
Ten-month position 206 day maximum, beginning the first day of fall practices, approximately mid-August, through approximately early June. The athletic trainer will work in accordance with a weekly schedule to be determined by the Athletic Director. Weekly schedules will vary according to the athletic season.

SALARY:
