Job Description

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Extended Learning Program, the Certified Athletic Trainer leads and manages the school's comprehensive athletic health care program in support of all sports programs at the school. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality care across all phases of athletic health, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, referral, follow-up care, education, and counseling. The Athletic Trainer also oversees the organization, operation, and supervision of the athletic training facility while partnering closely with coaches, student-athletes, families, and medical professionals to promote a safe, healthy, and competitive athletic environment.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree 2 years Athletic Trainer Experience in a high school setting
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements listed above.
Current CPR/AED, First Aid Certification. Current Certification as an Athletic Trainer from the NATABOC Must meet the education and supervised athletic training experience requirements set out by the National Athletic Trainers Association board of Certification (NATABOC) and be licensed by the State of Hawaii at time of hire. Demonstrate a strong understanding of sports medicine principles, injury prevention, and rehabilitation techniques. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Must be able to understand, read/ write in English to follow basic instructions, and take, direction from supervisors and clients. Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with Virtus/Safe Environment Policy. Able to work all shifts and extended hours.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in sports medicine or related field. 3 year Athletic Trainer Experience in a high school setting. Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, in multi-aged environments.
Other Qualifications:
Experience to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with coaches, athletes, parents, and medical professionals. Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong organization skills; handle multiple tasks and projects, and good judgment. Demonstrate consistently professional, respectful, and compassionate interactions with student-athletes, coaches, families, and medical partners, while providing high-quality bedside care and clear, supportive communication. Demonstrated ability to understand business and management principles. Demonstrated ability to protect and maintain confidential information and comply with FERPA and PII policies. Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills. Report to work obligations to support the department and may require work outside normal business hours, if necessary. Must be eligible to work in the United States; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, such as an H-1B visa.
Key Responsibilities:
Injury Prevention, Assessment, and Rehabilitation (40%) Maintain, develop, and implement injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation programs in support of all athletic teams and sports programs at the school. Educate student-athletes on proper techniques and injury-reduction strategies. Provide athletic training coverage for practices, contests, and travel as needed. Evaluate and assess injuries to determine appropriate next steps in care. Collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals for advanced assessment, treatment, and referral when necessary. Develop, modify, and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured student-athletes. Monitor the overall health, safety, and wellness of student-athletes. Promote a culture of safety, care, and well-being within the athletics program through professional, compassionate, student-centered support. Treatment/ Emergency Care (25%) Provide prompt first aid, CPR, AED response, and emergency care as required by the situation. Respond to athletic injuries and emergencies with sound judgment, professionalism, and calm leadership. Administrative/Documentation (25%) Maintain detailed and accurate records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation progress. Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with coaches, parents, and medical professionals regarding injury status, treatment plans, and participation recommendations. Maintain confidentiality of student-athlete records in accordance with federal and state laws and Academy policies. Operate, supervise, and maintain the athletic training room and related equipment. Stay current on developments in sports medicine, athletic training, and best practices in student-athlete care. Performs other related duties as assigned (10%) Actively participate as a collaborative member of the athletics team by completing assigned duties and accepting additional responsibilities as needed. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a positive service-oriented attitude in all interactions with student-athletes, coaches, families, and colleagues. Assist with seasonal peaks and other department needs, including coverage outside normal business hours when required.
