The Athletic Trainer provides patient care and clinical support under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, consistent with Louisiana Athletic Trainer scope of practice. This role supports physician evaluation and treatment plans by assisting with patient assessments, therapeutic interventions, rehabilitation, patient education, and clinic operations. The Athletic Trainer treats all patients in a caring, professional, and ethical manner and supports the mission and standards of care of BROC. This position is primarily clinic-based, with the opportunity for sideline and event coverage as assigned. Sideline coverage is compensated with an hourly stipend. Duties and Responsibilities Clinical & Patient Care Responsibilities Assists physicians and mid-level providers during patient evaluations, treatments, and procedures. Gathers patient history and subjective information and reports findings to the supervising physician. Assists with physical assessments and functional evaluations as directed by the physician. Implements therapeutic exercises, rehabilitation programs, and treatment plans prescribed or approved by the physician. Applies therapeutic modalities and interventions (e.g., cryotherapy, heat, electrical stimulation, manual techniques) in accordance with physician orders.Assists with orthopedic care including:
Brace, orthotic, and durable medical equipment fitting and patient instruction Cast application and removal under physician direction Dressing changes and wound care assistance Assists with injections, aspirations, and procedures as directed by the supervising physician. Provides patient education regarding rehabilitation protocols, activity modifications, and post-procedure care as outlined by the physician. Performs pre-operative and post-operative care activities as directed, including assisting with follow-up visits. The Athletic Trainer does not independently diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, or establish medical treatment plans. Clinic Operations & Administrative Support Prepares patients for clinic visits and procedures, ensuring comfort, safety, and readiness. Escorts patients through clinic areas as appropriate to maintain efficient patient flow. Collects and documents vital signs and other clinical data as required. Assists with scheduling follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, and procedures as ordered. Helps prepare and submit documentation required for testing or surgical scheduling. Accurately documents patient care activities in the electronic medical record in a timely manner. Returns patient phone calls and coordinates communication under clinic protocols. Equipment, Safety & Compliance Maintains clinical supplies, rehabilitation equipment, braces, and orthotics inventory. Restocks exam rooms, treatment areas, and workstations. Ensures exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment are clean, disinfected, and organized. Adheres strictly to OSHA, HIPAA, and clinic safety standards. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Sideline & Event Coverage (As Assigned) Provides athletic training coverage for assigned sporting events, practices, or sideline events. Assists with injury recognition, immediate care, and referral in accordance with standing physician protocols. Communicates injuries and concerns to supervising physicians and clinic leadership. Completes required documentation following sideline coverage. Sideline and event coverage as needed and is compensated via hourly stipend. Professional Conduct & Team Collaboration Works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinic staff to ensure coordinated patient care. Communicates issues or concerns related to patient care, workflow, or safety to the Director of Operations and/or supervising physician. Assists other clinic staff when duties are completed or when patient care needs require support. Represents BROC professionally with patients, families, schools, organizations, and community partners. Performs other related duties as assigned to support clinic operations and patient care goals. Standards of Performance Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Demonstrates effective time management and reliability. Performs duties accurately and consistently. Exhibits professional communication with patients, physicians, supervisors, and coworkers. Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships. Adheres to the BROC Compliance Plan, documentation standards, and Personnel Policies Manual. Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and accountability at all times.REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training from an accredited program required. Current Board of Certified Athletic Trainers Certification (BOCATC) required. Certified First Assistant (CFA) from the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Current and valid Louisiana Athletic Trainer license required. CPR/BLS certification required. Prior experience in orthopaedics, sports medicine, or clinical setting preferred. Ability to pass a drug screening Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical record systems. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills. We offer an organized and coordinated continuum to provide better and timelier feedback between the patient, physician, and ancillary services provider.
