Aug 1, 2026 Job Description Position Summary The High School Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to student-athletes, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. This position supports the health and safety of all athletic program participants and collaborates with coaches, school staff, and healthcare providers. Essential Responsibilities Provide on-site athletic training coverage for practices and home athletic events as assigned Evaluate and assess athletic injuries and determine appropriate care plans Administer first aid and emergency care, including concussion management protocols Develop and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments, and athlete progress Communicate effectively with coaches, parents, school nurses, and physicians regarding athlete status Ensure compliance with school, district, and state athletic health and safety regulations Oversee proper use and maintenance of athletic training equipment and supplies Assist in the development and implementation of emergency action plans Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and wellness Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field (Master's preferred) Current certification through the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in MA Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification Experience working with high school athletes preferred Skills and Competencies Strong knowledge of sports injuries, rehabilitation techniques, and prevention strategies Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and documentation skills Ability to work flexible hours, including afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends Hourly position based on athletic schedule Primarily afternoons, evenings, and weekends during athletic season The Winthrop Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
