This is a full time, exempt position.
General Description:
The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating and administering a comprehensive preventative and rehabilitative healthcare program for student-athletes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain and coordinate a comprehensive sports medicine program. Perform professional and administrative services essential for the success of the program. Supervise student athletic trainers and potentially serve as a preceptor for the academic department. Work under the supervision of team physician. Provide athletic coverage during practices and home/away contests. Evaluate and diagnose injuries sustained by student athletes. Assist in administering physical examinations. Maintain medical records on all athletes. Track student-athlete injuries and treatments using injury tracking software. Design and implement both preventative and rehabilitative programs for student athletes. Communicate efectively with coaches. Act as liaison between student athletes and their parents to insurance companies and doctor's offices; refer and schedule doctor's appointments when needed. Submit insurance claim paperwork in a timely manner. Willingness to become an Approved Clinical Instructor within the Athletic Training Education Program, providing Athletic Training students with supervision and instruction during their clinical rotation. Abide by NATA code of ethics. Assist coaches in teaching student athletes the NAIA Champions of Character Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership, and Sportsmanship. Work in conjunction with Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. Work with the university to foster alumni relations. Responsibly manage a budget. Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in sports medicine, kinesiology, or athletic training is required. Master's degree in athletic training or a related field is preferred. CPR/AED/First Aid certification required, with instructor certification preferred. Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Possess and maintain national certification through the Board of Certification Inc. (BOC). Must have or obtain a license to practice Athletic Training in the state of Missouri. Preferred knowledge of and commitment to NAIA rules; preferred knowledge of Champions of Character program and commitment to its principles and goals. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to speak publicly without difficulty.
Typical Physical Demands:
Hold a valid driver's license. Ability to climb several flights of stairs several times each day. Ability to lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds. Ability to sit or stand for long periods. Ability to speak and read English fluently. Must possess a Missouri driver's license and adhere to the WWU vehicle policy. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Work Schedule:
This is an exempt, 10-month position requiring 40+ hours per week with day, evening, or weekend work as needed.
