Job Description

Role:
The Per Diem Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services on an hourly basis to support the health, safety, and performance of SCC student athletes. This role assists with injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and coverage of practices, competitions, and events as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Work Schedule:
Shifts will vary approximately 2-4 hours per day, including football practices and game coverage, based on departmental needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides on-site athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, and events as assigned
  • Evaluates, treats, and manages athletic injuries in accordance with established protocols
  • Assists with injury prevention strategies including taping, bracing, and warm-up oversight
  • Administers therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation exercises under direction of the Head Athletic Trainer
  • Responds to emergency situations and provides first aid and acute care
  • Communicates with coaches, student-athletes, and sports medicine staff regarding injury status and participation
  • Maintains accurate and timely injury documentation in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, NJCAA, and SCC standards
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe athletic training environment
  • Adheres to institutional policies, departmental procedures, and governing body regulations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills:
Education Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Athletic Training or related field. NATABOC certification required; New Jersey licensure (or eligibility) required. CPR/AED certification required. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of athletic training experience, preferably in a collegiate or professional setting. Interpersonal Skills Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with student athletes, coaches, and staff. Technical Skills Working knowledge of athletic training practices, injury documentation systems, and Microsoft Office applications. Understanding of NJCAA rules and regulations preferred.
Physical Requirements:
The work requires moderate physical exertion including standing for extended periods, responding to emergencies, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment (up to approximately 50 pounds). A valid driver's license is required
Work Environment:
Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions. Evening, weekend, and occasional holiday work required based on athletic schedules. This Job Description is not a complete statement of all duties and responsibilities comprising this position.
