Qualifications:
Master's degree in Athletic Training required (or Bachelor's degree if BOC certified prior to 2022). Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification. Current Ohio Athletic Trainer License. Current CPR/AED certification. Demonstrates aptitude for the successful performance of assigned responsibilities. Satisfies all background check and employment requirements established by law and Board policy.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, run, bend, kneel, lift, carry, and respond to emergency situations. Ability to lift and transport athletic training equipment and supplies and assist injured student-athletes as necessary.
General Description:
The Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to support the health, safety, and well-being of student-athletes through injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, emergency care, and return-to-play management. The position includes extended-contract responsibilities and requires a flexible work schedule, including afternoons, evenings, weekends, summer athletic activities, and other assigned wellness initiatives.
Essential Functions:
Provide athletic training services for district student-athletes, including injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care. Evaluate athletic injuries and determine appropriate treatment, referral, and participation status in accordance with established protocols and physician recommendations. Practice in accordance with a written collaboration agreement with the supervising physician(s), as required by Ohio law, and maintain compliance with all applicable licensure requirements. Maintain confidentiality of student health information in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, district policy, and professional standards. Coordinate and implement concussion management, return-to-play, and return-to-learn procedures in compliance with Ohio law, OHSAA regulations, and district policy. Maintain accurate injury records, treatment documentation, and medical information in accordance with professional standards and applicable laws. Monitor environmental conditions (e.g., heat index, lightning, air quality) and enforce district and OHSAA safety protocols regarding inclement weather. Inspect athletic facilities, playing fields, and safety equipment regularly to proactively identify, report, and monitor safety concerns and hazards to the Athletic Director. Communicate regularly with student-athletes, parents, coaches, physicians, school nurses, and administrators regarding athletic injuries and recovery plans. Assist coaches in developing and implementing injury prevention strategies and safe training practices. Provide athletic training coverage for designated practices, scrimmages, contests, tournaments, and other athletic events as assigned by the Athletic Director. Coordinate emergency action plans and emergency medical coverage for athletic events when appropriate. Recommend the purchase of athletic training supplies and equipment, and maintain an inventory of athletic training materials. Assist the Athletic Director with athletic training budget development, inventory management, and related reports. Assist with the coordination of pre-participation physical examinations and support compliance with OHSAA health, safety, and eligibility requirements. Consult with and work collaboratively with team physicians and other healthcare providers regarding student-athlete care. Supervise student aides, interns, and volunteers assigned to the athletic training program. Maintain the athletic training facility in a safe, organized, and sanitary condition. Attend professional development activities necessary to maintain licensure and certification. Collaborate with Cloverleaf Community Recreation Center staff, as directed, to support district and community athletic, wellness, fitness, and recreational programs through injury prevention education, safety planning, and other athletic training services consistent with the responsibilities of the position. Support district weight room, strength and conditioning, and fitness programs by promoting safe training practices, injury prevention, and student-athlete wellness consistent with the Athletic Trainer's professional role. Perform other duties as assigned that are consistent with the qualifications, licensure, and primary responsibilities of the Athletic Trainer position.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values. Conduct other duties related to the Athletic Trainer's duties as assigned by the Athletic Director/Principal. Additional Working Conditions Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, rain, and other environmental factors. Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases. Frequent evening, weekend, and summer work responsibilities. Occasional interaction with disruptive or emotionally distressed individuals. Ability to travel between district facilities and athletic venues.
