July 20, 2026 Job Description Ashley Hall is South Carolina's only independent all-girls school serving students in grades K-12, with a co-educational Early School for children ages 2-5. Located in historic Charleston, Ashley Hall offers a dynamic educational experience grounded in innovation, student-centered learning, and a strong tradition of academic excellence. Ashley Hall Athletics currently offers 24 teams across Middle School, JV, and Varsity levels. The Head Athletic Trainer oversees and leads the Ashley Hall Sports Medicine Program and provides athletic training services for student-athletes in grades 5-12. This position serves as an integral member of both the Athletics and Health Services teams and supports student-athlete safety, wellness, and performance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgement, leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills, with experience supporting multiple interscholastic sport and female athletes. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Core Responsibilities Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care for athletic injuries and illnesses. Provide athletic training coverage for Middle School, JV, and Varsity athletic practices, competitions, and special events. Conduct concussion baseline testing and support concussion management protocols for students in grades 512. Coordinate physician referrals. Communicate effectively with physicians, studentathletes, parents, coaches, Health Services, and school administrators regarding injury status, treatment plans, and returntoplay decisions. Coordinate emergency action plans for athletic venues and events. Monitor and support safe athletic participation environments, including weatherrelated safety protocols.
Department / Operational
Duties Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures in accordance with BOC, NATA, SCISA, and South Carolina regulations. Maintain athletic training records, medical documentation, and sports medicine equipment/supplies in compliance with HIPAA and school requirements. Coordinate athletic training coverage and medical support for athletic events and select away competitions as needed. Participate in coaches' meetings and preseason planning to support studentathlete safety and athletic program readiness.
Communication / Collaboration
Serve as a collaborative partner with Ashley Hall Health Services in supporting student wellness initiatives, concussion management, and continuity of care. Build collaborative relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, physicians, and external healthcare providers.
Compliance / Safety
/ Confidentiality Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements. Adhere to all Ashley Hall policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, documentation, and risk management. Maintain confidentiality regarding student medical information and records. Other Duties Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Athletics Department and broader school community. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATEaccredited college or university. BOC certification and South Carolina Athletic Trainer license through DHEC. Current CPR/AED certification (BLS or Professional Rescuer). Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer working with multiple sports; schoolbased experience preferred. Strong knowledge of athletic training best practices, injury prevention, rehabilitation, emergency response, and concussion management. Strong communication, organizational, documentation, technology, and professional judgment skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with female studentathletes in an independent school setting. NPI number preferred. Experience coordinating concussion testing and returntoplay protocols. Familiarity with SCISA athletic requirements and documentation processes. Experience collaborating with healthcare providers, school nurses, and multidisciplinary teams. Work Environment Requires availability during regular school hours, afterschool practices and competitions, evenings, and occasional weekends. Coverage required for home Varsity and JV events, with local and regional travel as needed. Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and other physical activity associated with athletic training responsibilities, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
