What We Want The Athletic Trainer, under direction, is responsible for the prevention, care and treatment of injuries to student-athletes, using necessary knowledge of injury patterns and modern principle of athletic training. Collects samples for drug testing. Supervises and educates student athletic trainers.

Travel required with assigned sport. Working nights, weekends, and holidays as required to complete assigned tasks. Responsibilities Treatment/Rehab
  • Evaluates, treats and rehabilitates injuries to TAMU athletes. Responsible for taping, bracing and preparation of student athletes for practice and games (events) of assigned sports. Athlete Care
  • Coordinates with Assistant Athletics Director of Sports Nutrition for appropriate meals, and supplements utilized by student athletes.
Charts and keeps records of student athlete injuries utilizing current record keeping systems and protocols. Coordinates and consults with Physicians, student athletes and medical facilities regarding health care. Consults with coaches and parents regarding student athlete health care. Attendance and supervision, for safety preventive and emergency care of student athletes, at practices and games (events) of assigned sports. Travels, as directed and required, with assigned teams.   • Assists in supervision of student athletic trainer apprenticeship education and sport scheduling. Assists in maintenance and supervision of athletic training room, equipment and supply inventory. Licenses
  • Literature review and continuing education sufficient to maintain professional licenses and certifications. Drug Testing
  • Collection of urine samples for drug testing. Compliance
  • Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.
Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations for all staff members and student workers supervised. Compliance is a shared responsibility. Qualifications Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. One year of full-time, or three years of part-time, paid or voluntary experience as a student trainer.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Must be certified by the Board of Certification of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Ability to sit for State of Texas License to practice Athletic Training.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
CPR Certification. Automatic External Defibrillator Certification.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Computer skills, medical & First Aid skills, joint taping, Physical Therapy skills. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
