Job Description
Description Job Overview Prevent, assess, treat and/or rehabilitate injuries sustained by athletes and provide emergency coverage of athletic events in support of all FBISD athletics. Provide care in emergency situations and act as a first responder for coverage of athletic events in support of Fort Bend ISD athletics. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform injury assessment, emergency care, and management of acute or chronic injuries with treatment and rehabilitation under the direct supervision of the team physician Manage daily operations of the athletic training program including the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athlete injuries Provide pre- and post- practice and event treatments and preventative measures which including taping, stretching, meal planning for proper nutrition and hydration Assist athletic directors and campus coordinators with the inspection of athletic equipment, practice facilities and game facilities for a safe environment for the student athletes Provide athletic trainer services at practices and campus varsity and sub-varsity events, for both home and visiting teams, as well as other FBISD events/activities Collect, review and file all pre-participation forms and documentation both on paper and computerized. Record all athletic injuries including doctors notes, injury assessment, treatment protocol and rehabilitation logs Establish and maintain effective communication with coaches, students, parents, administration, and medical resource persons regarding student medical concerns Demonstrate knowledge and proper use in the application of therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation equipment in the appropriate treatment and/or rehabilitation of athletic injuries Supervise the work of the assistant athletic trainer(s) and coordinate the coverage of athletic events with them Supervise, organize, and recruit student participation in the athletic training program. Coordinate and assign student athletic trainer coverage at practices, scrimmages and games Instruct and train athletic training students the proper techniques in recognition and care of basic athletic injuries Supervise and maintain an inventory of athletic training supplies and equipment that have been issued to student athletes. Monitor the athletic training budget and requisition of all necessary supplies Organize and disseminate the procedures to be carried out by coaches, students and the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Emergency Action Plan for each sport Supervise and evaluate the Emergency Action Plan drills conducted for all on campus sports Provide care to middle School athletes in feeder pattern as needed for injury assessment and coverage of certain events/games Qualifications Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Bachelor's degree in related field; Coursework in kinesiology, health, anatomy and physiology, biology, or sports medicine preferred License from Texas Department of Health Advisor board of Athletic Trainers Current First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain the certification Minimum of 2 years as an athletic trainer NATABOC preferred Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
