Job Description:
The Head Athletic Trainer (11m) is responsible for leading and managing the Athletic Training Office and Sports Medicine Program at Alexandria City High School. This position oversees all aspects of athletic healthcare services for student-athletes participating in over 20 sports at both the middle and high school levels. Duties include injury prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, return-to-play decisions, and overall education regarding sports-related injuries. The Head Athletic Trainer ensures compliance with all applicable medical, legal, and ethical standards and works collaboratively with coaches, athletic staff, parents, and healthcare professionals. Daily hours vary, depending on the athletic schedule and seasonal demands. This is a Support 11-Month position with ACPS Athletics, reporting to the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training from an Accredited College or University.
Certifications & Licensure:
Current licensure through the Virginia Board of Medicine. Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). Valid CPR/AED certification. Valid driver's license.
Experience:
Prior experience as a certified athletic trainer is required. Experience in a high school athletic setting is preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Deliver comprehensive athletic training services for all assigned athletic programs, including game and practice coverage. Perform injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, referral, and return-to-play clearance for student-athletes. Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation plans. Coordinate and communicate treatment schedules and coverage plans with Assistant Athletic Trainers. Prepare and break down medical equipment and supplies for practices and competitions (e.g., water, ice, splint bags, AEDs). Maintain a professional standard within the athletic training room, including cleanliness, organization, and decorum. Supervise and mentor high school Athletic Training Student Aides and/or college Athletic Training Students. Collaborate with physicians, coaches, parents, and administrators to ensure appropriate care and communication regarding student-athlete health and safety. Assist with the upkeep and daily maintenance of the Athletic Training Room (ATR). Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
