Job Description

The House Children's Hearing Center is a comprehensive pediatric hearing health center devoted to the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of the full spectrum of hearing conditions in children, from birth to 21 years of age. This center builds upon the storied foundation of the House Institute, the preeminent center for treating ear disease and neurological disorders. For more than 80 years, the House Institute's neurotologists and neurosurgeons have led the way in treating the causes of hearing, balance, and skull-base disorders with cutting-edge practices and procedures. The multidisciplinary team at the House Children's Hearing Center includes pediatric audiologists, neurotologists, speech/language pathologist/auditory-verbal therapist and mental health specialists. We work closely with surrounding schools and non-profit organizations to serve our community. We approach each family with customized care and attention to ensure that patients receive the best treatment possible. As a doctoral student in our clinic, you will have the opportunity to see a wide range of etiologies and treatment options including hearing aids, bone anchored hearing solutions and cochlear implants. •House Institute is following the Audiology Clinical Education Network timeline•

Yes Does the externship site provide orientation to quality assessment, quality assurance and quality improvement? Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: Audiological testing, exposure to hearing aids, bone anchored hearing solutions and cochlear implants. Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: Proficieny in Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, Conditioned Play Audiometry, Auditory Brainstem Response Test, hearing aid fitting and verification, bone anchored hearing solutions evaluation and fitting, cochlear implant evaluation and programming, patient counseling, coordination of services. Audiologists at HCHC will recruit pediatric patients for participation in research and participate in gathering data for current research projects.
