Job Description

The House Institute has been a leader in hearing healthcare in California and has been known throughout the world for its quality of care since 1943. Named for the groundbreaking work done by founder Howard P. House, M.D., the House Institute treats a variety of unique ear-related disorders and works with a primarily adult and geriatric patient population. With locations spanning the state of California, this is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the golden state! As a doctoral student in our clinic, you will have the opportunity to see a wide range of ear pathologies and interesting/unique cases. •House Institute is following the Audiology Clinical Education Network timeline•

Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship: Audiological testing as well as exposure to BAHA and Cochlear implants. Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship: Patient counseling and education with hearing aids and cochlear implants. Clinical opportunities that will be given to the extern: Everyday Hearing Screenings Never Pediatric evaluations: infant/toddler Never Pediatric evaluations: school-age Regularly Adult hearing evaluations Regularly Tympanometry Regularly Acoustic Reflexes Rarely Auditory processing evaluations Everyday Hearing Screenings Regularly Evoked potential assessments Never Intra-operative monitoring cases Regularly Otoacoustic emissions Never Industrial/hearing conservation Rarely Vestibular assessments Rarely Vestibular rehabilitation Regularly Hearing aids dispensed Regularly Hearing aid selection/fitting Regularly Audiologic rehabilitation (group or individualized) Regularly Cochlear implant evaluations Regularly Cochlear implant rehabilitation Regularly Tinnitus assessments Rarely Tinnitus rehabilitation Never Cerumen management Research opportunities?
