Job Description

Jacksonville Hearing and Balance Institute (JHBI) is currently accepting applications for a 2027-2028 Audiology Externship position. JHBI is a prominent Neurotology practice that primarily serves the adult population. Our fast-paced practice will provide the student with experience in comprehensive audiologic assessment (pure tone and speech audiometry, tymps, reflexes, OAE's), electrophysiologic assessment (ECOG, cVEMP, and ABR), cochlear implant and BAHA services, hearing aids, tinnitus assessment and management, APD evaluations, and comprehensive vestibular evaluations (CDP, rotary chair, and VNG). Supervised by a team of six audiologists; four currently hold their CCC-A certification. Yes Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Master audiometric testing including masking rules.
  • Ability to critically think about each case presented.
  • Foundational knowledge in hearing aids, cochlear implants and bone anchored devices.
  • Working knowledge on vestibular assessment and interpretation. Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:
  • Proficient in report writing and electronic medical record keeping.
  • Independently perform all diagnostic evaluations.
  • Critical thinking about each case presented.
  • Proficient in counseling, selection, and fitting of hearing aids, cochlear implants and bone anchored devices.
  • Independently perform and interpret a full vestibular evaluation.
