The University of Southern Mississippi School of Speech and Hearing Sciences, a CAA-accredited program, invites applicants for a nine-month, Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2026, with an earlier start date negotiable. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Teach academic coursework in the Doctor of Audiology curriculum.
Develop a line of research/scholarly activity.
Serve on University/College/School committees.
Serve as mentor to students and/or faculty members.
Teach courses in the undergraduate Speech and Hearing Sciences program as needed.
The incumbent candidate will develop a viable line of research activities that result in national presentations and refereed publications, provide academic instruction at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and the opportunity to provide clinical supervision for doctoral-level audiology students, and provide services to the University community. D and/ or Ph.D. or EdD in audiology, hearing science or a closely related professional field. Will consider ABD candidates. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Be flexible. Utilize teamwork and interpersonal skills. Have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with all groups of individuals. Must demonstrate adaptability and persistence while working with individuals and University students. Must demonstrate sensitivity, respect, and be discreet when dealing with confidential matters. Must be detail-oriented and timely with all required notes, files, and documentation. Preferred Qualifications Include expertise and/or extensive experience in one or more of the following areas: amplification, hearing science, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic audiology, vestibular assessment, electrophysiology, psychoacoustics, cochlear implants, educational audiology, pediatric audiology, or pediatric amplification. Particular weight is placed on candidates with experience in vestibular assessment and demonstrated ability and comfort in teaching vestibular-focused courses. ASHA certification in audiology (CCC-A) and the capability to meet state licensing requirements in Audiology is preferred.
