St. Jude Children's Research Hospital hosts a unique externship opportunity focusing on diagnostic audiology in the form of ototoxic monitoring and rehabilitation through amplification. SJCRH Audiology Clinic fosters clinical skills through diagnostic assessments on children (65% of population) and adults (35% of population) with significant exposure to evoked potential testing via ABR evaluations. An extern also will be offered ample opportunity to sharpen skills of hearing aid verification and management for our pediatric population. An extern should display a significant desire to work with a pediatric population. A previous pediatric rotation is required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish a quick rapport are required. Excellent clinical knowledge of diagnostic audiology and hearing aid management is needed, as is confident clinical decision-making skills. An extern should come with a willingness to learn and a desire to gain independence in case management. Externship requires a 50-week commitment. Upon acceptance, an Audiology Clinic Extern license must be obtained through the State of Tennessee Board of Communication Disorders and Sciences.
