Position Summary The Behavior Technician provides direct educational and behavioral support to children and adults with special needs throughout Compton Unified School District. Under the supervision of credentialed staff and behavioral specialists, the technician implements individualized programs designed to improve communication, social skills, adaptive behavior, and academic engagement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Behavior Intervention — Implement evidence-based behavior intervention plans, including strategies rooted in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Data Tracking — Collect and maintain accurate data on student behavior, progress, and skill acquisition. Instructional Support — Assist teachers and specialists in delivering instructional and behavioral programming. Student Skill Development — Support students in developing communication, social, and adaptive skills. Crisis Prevention — Follow district-approved de-escalation and safety procedures. Team Collaboration — Communicate professionally with teachers, administrators, families, and behavioral specialists. Compliance — Adhere to all district, state, and federal guidelines, including IEP implementation and documentation standards. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent Pediatric Experience — Two (2) years preferred CPR Certification — Current, if applicable TB Clearance — Questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray Legal Requirements — Must meet all federal, state, and local employment standards Age Requirement — Must be at least 18 years old Preferred Skills and Attributes Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis Strong communication and interpersonal skills Patience, consistency, and empathy Ability to follow structured programs and adapt to student needs Commitment to supporting diverse learners in an inclusive environment Work Environment Behavior Technicians work in classrooms, small-group settings, and one-on-one environments. The role requires active engagement, mobility across campus, and the ability to support students with varying behavioral and academic needs.
