This position is split between the Rodman PreK program and the JFK Elementary School. The Behavior Specialist needs to be actively pursuing state licensure for BCBA.
Purpose/Value of Position:
Staff including BCBA's and Behavior Specialists are an integral part of the Canton Public School System. Staff hired to provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) support, services, and interventions to students are directly supervised by the BCBA. The evaluation of student needs and the design of the programs that will assist student learning and growth will be conducted and written by the BCBA/Behavior Specialist. Whether a student is determined to have behavioral challenges and/or an Autism Spectrum Disorder, BCBAs/Behavior Specialists will be called upon to work with staff to develop and implement programs for students. Students who need and are provided with BCBA consult and Behavior Specialist/ABA services will learn the skills necessary to more fully participate in school and become more independent lifelong learners.
Behavior Specialist will have:
Solid knowledge of the principles and practice of Applied Behavior Analysis. This includes general behavioral assessment and Ethical Standards in Behavior Analysis. Solid knowledge of the behavioral impact of developmental disabilities, as well as the cognitive, educational, vocational, and social challenges encountered by persons with developmental disabilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals and groups at all professional levels. Effective and creative negotiator and problem solver.
Major Responsibilities:
Experience with implementing functional behavior assessments with children with autism and participating in clinical teams with other autism professionals. Clinical background in administering verbal behavior assessments, conducting language, play, and skill-based assessments, and in designing, implementing, and/or training others using individualized language, play, and skill-based curricula. Supervisory experience in 1:1 education of learners with autism across clinical settings, as well as familiarity with designing, participating in, or supervising 1:1 and small group programs for children with autism. Ability to collect, graph, analyze, display, and discuss data based progress. Provide PD to ABA and Ed. Assistants including CPI Training.
Evaluate ABA's Training/Education:
Master's Degree in ABA or a related field, from an ABA accredited program Training and certification under the Behavior Analysis Certification Program (BACB) Working towards completion of Applied Behavior Analysis as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst Two years of experience providing services to individuals with developmental disabilities
