Aug 31, 2026 Job Description Social Emotional Behavior Specialist West Springfield Public Schools The position supports students with Social Emotional and Behavioral needs by providing direct and indirect services, such as modeling effective social emotional and behavioral interventions, coaching and consulting to staff regarding effective service implementation, participating in evaluation teams, developing IEPs and program structures, and facilitating SEBS program consultation meetings. The role provides staff training and program development to support students with social emotional and behavioral needs across general and special education settings. Responsibilities also include developing data collection tools for progress monitoring, offering parent training and workshops, and attending Department of Education regional trainings to stay current with best practices.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work under the direction of the Executive Director of Special Services in collaboration with the Special Education Supervisors and the Social Emotional Learning Coordinator.
  • Designs and supports implementation of programs to support prosocial behavior based on frequent systematic analysis of variables that cause and maintain behavior.
  • Provides training and coordination of data collection within SEBS programs (e.g., behavior referrals, point sheets, goal tracking, progress monitoring).
  • Facilitates weekly consultation meetings with each SEBS program to monitor and improve systems and practices of the program.
  • Consults with staff to modify instructional programs based on frequent systematic evaluation of direct observational data.
  • Provide social emotional and behavioral parent training to promote family-school collaboration and generalization of student skill development.
  • Provides technical assistance and coaching in the area of evidence-based behavior management techniques for students in general education and special education classrooms, including school and district implementation of PBIS.
  • Creates and provides professional development to staff in the area of behavior and social emotional support.
  • Participate in and maintain QBS Safety Care certification.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope of the position.
Skills:
  • Experience working with children who exhibit significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Experience working in K-12 school setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary best practices in trauma-informed case conceptualization and trauma-informed educational practices.
  • Familiarity with best-practices for de-escalation in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary best practices for implementation of evidence-based clinical mental health and behavioral interventions, such as social skills instruction, cognitive behavioral counseling, and solution-focused counseling.
  • Focused on solution creation through data-based decision making.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Independent Contract:
Full time, 190 work days per year Salary commensurate with experience, $75,000
  • $95,000 Reports to the Executive Director of Special Services
