Job Description

Behavior Specialist - Specialized Intervention for Severe Behavior Program (Inpatient & Outpatient) Full Time 8-hour/Day Shift Available We're seeking compassionate, motivated, and dedicated behavior technicians to join Michigan's first hospital-based Specialized Intervention for Severe Behavior Program. Our program specializes in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of children and young adults with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who present with complex and severe challenging behavior. We provide intensive, individualized care within a structured, multidisciplinary model grounded in applied behavior analysis (ABA). You'll work under the supervision of a
BCBA/BCBA-D
within a multidisciplinary hospital team. We're looking for individuals who are reliable, hard-working, focused, professional, resilient, and eager to learn. Preference is given to candidates pursuing a long-term career in the field of ABA, those currently enrolled in a program pursuing their BCBA certification, or those with a strong interest in advancing within the field of behavioral health. This is a full-time position (M-F, 8:30am - 4:30pm). Guaranteed hours (i.e., hours are not dependent on patient attendance). Opportunities for working weekends/overtime are available in addition to the full-time requirement. Duties Conduct sessions with patients using standard procedures under the direction of a Behavior Analyst; Provide suggestions of possible procedures and methods to a Behavior Analyst; Assist behavior analyst in implementing intake, assessment, treatment, and discharge procedures; Prepare initial drafts of session materials and progress notes; Collect and enter assessment and treatment data into spreadsheets and graph those data; Report the behavior and environment in observable and measurable terms to a Behavior Analyst and provide goal updates; Perform initial analysis of findings and present recommendations to a Behavior Analyst; Assist in the creation of data-collection protocols and systems; Assist with the development of behavior-reduction programs; Assist in the training of caregivers; Assist in organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of unit, materials, and equipment.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); At least one year of experience working with individuals with developmental or behavior challenges (ABA experience preferred); Strong communication, teamwork, and data collection skills; Ability to remain calm and professional during behavioral or medical crisis; Must be comfortable and confident supporting children with severe or aggressive behaviors, wearing protective equipment when needed; Reliable transportation required.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, education, social work, or related field; Candidates pursuing a master's degree in ABA or psychology are strongly encouraged to apply; Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification is preferred; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before starting; Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, Outlook); Will be required to pass a pre-employment background check and fingerprinting; Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening; Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and their application in a clinical environment is required; Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for effective collaboration with team members and families.
