Job Description

Hiring Department Thompson Center Job Description Position Summary As a member of the Applied Behavioral Intervention Services division at the MU Thompson Center, the Behavior Intervention Specialist provides direct, individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. This position works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement evidence-based behavioral interventions designed to improve communication, social, adaptive, and daily living skills while reducing challenging behaviors. The specialist collaborates with families and caregivers to promote skill generalization across home, school, and community settings. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Implement individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment plans developed and supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Provide direct one-on-one behavioral intervention services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in clinical, home, school, or community-based settings as assigned. Utilize both structured teaching methods and naturalistic teaching strategies to support skill acquisition and behavioral development. Collect, record, and maintain accurate data on client progress, behavior occurrences, and treatment outcomes in accordance with program standards. Monitor client responses to interventions and communicate observations, concerns, and progress to the supervising BCBA. Assist in preparing therapy materials and maintaining a safe, organized, and therapeutic environment. Support the implementation of behavior intervention plans designed to increase adaptive behaviors and decrease challenging behaviors. Educate parents, caregivers, and family members on therapeutic strategies being utilized during treatment sessions. Coach and support families in implementing behavioral strategies and skill-building techniques in everyday routines and environments. Participate in team meetings, case reviews, training activities, and ongoing professional development opportunities. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all applicable policies, procedures, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care and optimal outcomes for clients and families. Impact of the Position This position plays a critical role in helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorder develop meaningful skills that improve independence, communication, social engagement, and quality of life. Through direct intervention and family support, the Behavior Intervention Specialist contributes to positive long-term outcomes for children and their families while advancing the mission of the MU Thompson Center.
Shift Hours may vary:
M-F 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Hours may vary: M-F 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. One year experience in health management or program administration is required. Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15-$18/hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
