JOHNSTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION
Exceptional Children Behavior and Autism Specialist
LOCATION
Exceptional Children Programs (School Locations TBA)
SALARY:
Teacher's Salary Schedule
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT
10 Months (with option to extend to 11 month)
REPORTS TO
Director of Exceptional Children
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
A Bachelor of Arts or Science (or higher) in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, special education, or related field is required. Experience in providing educational and/or behavioral services for students with disabilities including autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities and other behavior disorders. Minimum of five years experience providing services to students with disabilities. Must possess a valid North Carolina teaching license.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regularly visit schools to provide coaching and modeling of effective behavior intervention strategies. Conduct functional behavior assessments. Assist with developing behavior intervention plans, and support implementation of established plans. Assist with development of progress monitoring tools and analysis of progress monitoring data. Design and deliver professional learning for teachers and administrators. Collaborate with school- and district-based colleagues. Attend IEP meetings, as determined appropriate. Effectively present complex information on behavior, behavioral assessment, and implementation of behavior plans to staff and families. Work with children and adolescents that have behavioral, learning and social challenges. Work with a variety of service providers and agencies. Maintain professional skills and knowledge, including adhering to strict confidentiality standards. Develop and compile a variety of records and reports. Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community members. Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, and others. CPI certification or willingness and ability to become certified. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations
