Behavior Specialist Position Overview At Top Care Support, we are committed to delivering high-quality, person-centered services that empower individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ID/DD) to live meaningful, self-directed lives. We are seeking a dedicated Behavior Specialist who shares this commitment and brings both clinical expertise and a genuine respect for the individuals we serve. In this role, you will support individuals in achieving their personal goals by developing and implementing thoughtful, evidence-based behavior supports that reflect their strengths, preferences, and values. You will play a key role in ensuring that services are not only clinically effective, but also respectful, consistent, and aligned with best practices in quality care. This position is highly collaborative and community-based. It requires regular, reliable travel to a variety of service settings, including individuals' homes and community locations, to ensure that supports are effectively implemented and maintained in real-life environments. Core Responsibilities Individualized, Person-Centered Assessment Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) that go beyond identifying behaviors to understanding the whole person, their communication style, environment, preferences, and goals. Use this information to guide meaningful, individualized support strategies. Development of High-Quality Support Plans Design behavior intervention plans that are practical, respectful, and focused on teaching skills that improve independence, communication, and overall quality of life. Consistent Implementation & Ongoing Improvement Ensure interventions are implemented with fidelity across settings. Regularly review progress and adjust strategies to maintain effectiveness and alignment with the individual's evolving needs. Collaborative Partnership Work in close partnership with the Agency BCBA, families, Direct Support Professionals, and interdisciplinary team members to promote consistency, shared understanding, and high-quality outcomes. Coaching & Capacity Building Provide hands-on training and ongoing coaching to staff and families, helping them feel confident and supported in delivering person-centered care and behavioral strategies. Data-Informed Practice Collect and analyze data to measure progress, identify trends, and drive continuous quality improvement in service delivery. Respectful Crisis Prevention & Response Prioritize proactive, positive behavior supports to minimize crisis situations. When necessary, respond in a way that ensures safety while maintaining the dignity and respect of the individual. Documentation Excellence Complete clear, accurate, and timely documentation that reflects both compliance requirements and the quality of services being delivered. Regulatory & Ethical Compliance Deliver services in accordance with all applicable regulations, including Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) standards, while upholding the highest ethical and professional practices. Community Inclusion & Life Skill Development Support individuals in building the skills and confidence needed to actively participate in their communities and pursue personally meaningful activities and relationships. Travel & Work Environment Expectations This is a field-based role that requires frequent travel throughout the service area. The Behavior Specialist is expected to: Travel regularly to individuals' homes, day programs, and community settings Provide in-person assessment, supervision, and coaching across multiple locations Maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of individuals and teams Ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery regardless of setting Reliable transportation and the ability to travel independently are essential to success in this role.
Qualifications:
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field.
Experience :
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with individuals with ID/DD, specifically in behavior analysis or behavioral health.
Knowledge :
Strong understanding of evidence-based practices, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Positive Behavior Support (PBS), and other therapeutic approaches for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Core Skills & Competencies Ability to develop and implement individualized, person-centered behavior support plans that promote independence and meaningful outcomes Strong foundation in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles, with the ability to apply evidence-based strategies such as functional assessment, reinforcement, skill acquisition, and behavior reduction in a way that is ethical, respectful, and aligned with person-centered practices Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make evidence-based decisions that enhance service quality Effective and respectful communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with individuals, families, and team members Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure consistent, high-quality care Commitment to ethical practice, ongoing learning, and professional development Proficiency with basic computer systems and documentation or data collection tools
Physical Demands :
Ability to lift, carry, and/or assist individuals as needed, and the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Certifications :
CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
