Job SummaryThe Simulation Technician supports the School of Nursing's Clinical Simulation Center by ensuring the readiness, functionality, and maintenance of simulation equipment and facilities. Under the supervision of the Simulation Director, this role manages day-to-day technical operations of the simulation center, supports faculty and students during simulation activities, and ensures compliance with safety, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The Simulation Technician plays a critical role in supporting high-quality experiential learning through the effective use of simulation technologies and resources.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Prepare, set up, and break down simulation environments, including patient simulators, task trainers, hospital equipment, supplies, and audiovisual systems.

Program, operate, and troubleshoot patient simulators and simulation software during instructional activities, including on-the-fly adjustments and use of pre-programmed scenarios.

Provide audiovisual and technical support for live simulations, debrief sessions, video recording, streaming, and review of simulation activities.

Monitor and maintain simulation equipment, including cleaning, routine maintenance, repairs, and coordination of warranty service and vendor support.

Communicate with manufacturers and vendors regarding equipment maintenance, upgrades, repairs, and technology changes.

Coordinate and implement software and equipment upgrades as needed.

Maintain simulation laboratories in compliance with regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards.

Manage inventory, ordering, and restocking of simulation supplies, equipment, and assets.

Provide recommendations for equipment and supply purchases, anticipating future instructional and technology needs.

Manage and support technology assets, including desktops, laptops, monitors, mobile devices, and related systems, within warranty guidelines.

Administer and operate learning or center management systems to schedule simulations, track utilization, manage case information, and collect evaluation data.

Schedule simulation activities and manage space and resource utilization to accommodate multiple instructional groups.

Prepare and apply moulage (simulated injuries, wounds, and conditions) to standardized patients and simulators.

Assist with development, setup guidance, utilization tracking, and documentation of simulation case scenarios.

Compiling or generating reports on simulation hours, student participation rates, or competency outcomes for accreditation bodies like CCNE or the BRN.Research, evaluate, and assist with implementation of new simulation technologies, equipment, and task trainers.

Lead or assist with simulation technology and best-practice training for faculty and staff.

Provide orientation to faculty and students on simulation technologies and related systems.

Conduct tours of the simulation center as directed.

Assist with audiovisual and technology needs of the School of Nursing in collaboration with IT Services.

Collaborate regularly with the IT Services department regarding technology systems and support.

Ensure service contracts (e.g., linen services, biohazardous waste) are maintained and compliant with regulations.

Attend nursing faculty meetings as required.

Support departmental communication efforts, including website updates and social media coordination as directed.

Coordinating logistics for multi-disciplinary simulation events.

Recruiting, training, scheduling, or evaluating standardized patients (SPs).Tracking expenditures against a supply or equipment budget.

Other duties as assigned.
