About the
Role:
Job Summary The Biomedical Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of biomedical and medical equipment used in healthcare settings. This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of biomedical devices that support patient care and clinical operations. The technician collaborates closely with clinical and administrative staff to resolve equipment issues promptly, conduct safety inspections, maintain accurate records, and ensure full compliance with regulatory and manufacturer standards. By upholding the highest standards of functionality and safety, the Biomedical Technician directly contributes to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services and operational efficiency within the organization. Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Repair Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment including diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring devices. Respond promptly to service requests and troubleshoot malfunctions to minimize downtime and clinical disruption. Conduct routine safety, electrical, and performance inspections in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory standards (FDA, IEC, ISO, etc.). Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and software-related issues in medical devices. Installation & Configuration Install and configure new biomedical equipment based on clinical requirements and manufacturer specifications. Verify proper integration and compliance with operational and safety standards. Assist in evaluating new technologies and supporting the setup of replacement or upgraded equipment. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, service histories, and equipment inventories. Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or other digital tools to log work orders and track performance. Ensure adherence to hospital policies, company protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, OSHA, HIPAA). Prepare reports on equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and service trends for management review. Training & Support Provide technical assistance and training to healthcare professionals on the safe use, operation, and care of biomedical equipment. Communicate clearly with non-technical staff to explain technical issues and preventive maintenance procedures. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure equipment readiness for patient care. Inventory & Process Management Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies necessary for timely equipment repair. Track orders, verify deliveries, and recommend replacement or upgrade of outdated equipment. Support budgeting and procurement efforts by providing data on lifecycle and maintenance costs. Continuous Improvement & Safety Stay current with technological advancements and evolving regulatory standards affecting biomedical equipment. Identify opportunities to improve maintenance procedures and operational efficiency. Maintain a strong focus on patient safety and data privacy at all times. Required Skills & Abilities Strong technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex biomedical systems. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, wiring schematics, and service documentation. Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify root causes and implement corrective actions efficiently. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clinical and administrative staff. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple service requests simultaneously. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Physical dexterity and stamina to lift, move, and service equipment as required. Minimum Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent certification in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related technical field. Minimum of 2 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting. Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems as they relate to medical devices. Knowledge of safety and compliance standards including FDA, IEC, and ISO. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Technology, or a related field. Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or equivalent certification. Experience with advanced diagnostic imaging or life-support systems. Familiarity with CMMS, ERP, or similar maintenance management systems. Knowledge of hospital IT systems and biomedical device integration. Continuing education or specialized training in emerging biomedical technologies. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform light physical labor as needed. Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and use of hand tools for extended periods. Work in various clinical environments where patient care is delivered.Benefits:
