Full-time Job Summary:
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, calibration, and repair of medical equipment to ensure safe, effective, and compliant clinical operations. This role supports healthcare providers by ensuring equipment reliability and functionality across customer sites, including hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.
Primary Responsibilities:
Schedule and perform routine preventive maintenance, inspections, and calibrations on medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and regulatory standards. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of biomedical equipment, from small bedside devices to complex imaging systems. Install new medical equipment and provide training to clinical staff on proper and safe operation. Maintain accurate and detailed service records in TMS biomedical software. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards including JCAHO, CMS, NFPA, and other governing agencies. Provide consultation to customers regarding service contracts, capital equipment purchases, and equipment management programs. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of parts, tools, and supplies. Ensure proper maintenance of company vehicle and specialized tools. Attend training programs, seminars, and review technical publications to remain current with industry advancements. Maintain working knowledge of IT networking as it relates to biomedical equipment. Promote biomedical services to existing and prospective customers to support organizational growth.
Education:
Associate's degree or certificate in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field required. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and foundational IT networking knowledge required.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in biomedical equipment repair or a related field.
Special Training:
Ongoing technical training in biomedical equipment and systems as required.
Requirements:
must have valid driver's license and clear driving records.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed in healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics, and laboratories. Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds as needed. Frequent bending, stooping, and working overhead (including use of step ladders). Ability to stand for extended periods. Must have adequate color vision for equipment diagnostics.
Working Conditions:
Travel required, mostly day trips with roughly 20-25 overnights per year. Company vehicle and credit card provided.
