10 Position Summary The Simulation Operations Technician will provide vital technical and mechanical support and expertise for simulation and lab operations and technology, to include preparation, maintenance and repair of complex computerized, high-fidelity manikins and associated software, and the efficient operation of the data capture systems, related multimedia peripherals, and validating data collected during scenarios. This is a 12-month, full-time staff placement for the School of Nursing. Essential Job Duties
  • Maintains catalogs, operation manuals, purchase/warranty records, and inventory of simulation/lab equipment; keeping apprised of periodic product information released and updates; keep apprised of emerging technologies affecting simulation, lab, and data capture, and participate in technical training activities
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, prepares list of needs, and requests quotes for order placement
  • Responsible for the preparation of documents, lab kit boxes and supplies for each simulation, and on-campus lab.
  • Program, test and run simulation and lab scenarios for faculty facilitators, assuring that the facility, equipment, manikins, standardized patients and supplies are set up appropriately and that the desired outcomes will be achieved; interpret and implement changes when necessary
  • Provide training/support/consulting to faculty and other simulation center staff in the technical aspects of simulation and lab, to include the use and care of all equipment
  • Provide specialized technical support/maintenance for computer-based multimedia systems and their components
  • Sets up and takes down simulation and lab equipment
  • Maintains and repairs all simulation and lab equipment
  • Provides technical support for task trainers, and multimedia peripherals
  • Provides theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for lab and simulation scenarios to instructor specifications
  • Undertakes inspections of IT equipment to monitor condition, report issues
  • Provide support to the faculty, instructors, staff, and students in regard to simulation systems and equipment
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee. Omission of specific statement of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Computer Science, Management Information Technology, Healthcare discipline or Medical Technology. Licenses/Certifications
  • None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, and database use, as well as other identified programs and applications
  • Technology, multimedia, audio/visual experience including knowledge of simulation systems that allow vendors, faculty, staff, and students access to critical materials. Ability to assess, troubleshoot and fix equipment and technology failures in a timely fashion
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and independent judgement including learning new software/hardware quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills, to work with faculty, instructors, staff, and students in simulation, lab, and other interactions
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with attention to detail
  • Creativity and flexibility in designing innovative approaches to solving problems and improving processes
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues
  • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, and editing
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology
  • Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example
  • Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible

  • Frequent bending, moving, lifting and carrying material weighing up to 150 lbs. with mechanical or human assistance
  • Working in all weather conditions

  • Regularly performs tasks that involve repetitive wrist and finger movement
  • Regularly operates a computer and other standard office equipment
