Job Description

SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Respiratory Care Clinical Supervisor and according to procedure, prepares, transports, sets up and checks respiratory therapy equipment in both routine and emergency situations. RESPONSIBILITIES
Makes daily rounds to assigned areas to deliver, check, change and set up equipment, such as respirators, oxygen cylinders, Ambu bags, etc. Checks emergency carts stored on units to see that it is properly stocked, that all equipment is operational for use in an emergency and that portable O2 cylinders are filled to proper levels. Assists in the disassembly and cleaning of equipment and supplies. Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs such as changing batteries on equipment as necessary. Responds to routine and emergency calls to deliver, set up and test equipment for immediate use. Prepares and maintains appropriate records such as updating information on patients and equipment in use and prepares charges for billing. Provides functional guidance and initial instruction to new employees and students assigned to area, assists in the training of Equipment Technicians. Observes appropriate infection control procedures such as wearing mask and gloves to enter barrier rooms.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate with the ability to read, write, and understand English, to read graphs and gauges, and keep records. Numerical and clerical ability to read graphs and gauges and keep simple records.
EXPERIENCE
Six to twelve months on the job training to learn the proper set up and use of respiratory therapy equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Continuous standing and walking with frequent pushing, lifting, and carrying heavy equipment. Some exposure to contamination from equipment but chance of infection minimized by observing safety.
