Job Summary:
The Biomedical Equipment Technician II (BMET II) installs, inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates, and verifies the performance of complex biomedical equipment with minimal supervision. The individual should be competent in the use of all applicable test equipment and tools required in the performance of these duties. The BMET II may serve as technical advisor to the medical and clinical staff in the safe operation and use of clinical equipment. This position also assists in developing specifications for the selection of new clinical equipment.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Conducts performance assurance inspections, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections, and operation verification procedures on complex and intricate biomedical equipment. Performs initial inspections of all equipment to determine if equipment is to be included or excluded from the equipment maintenance program. Assess, interprets, communicates, and documents user and equipment need in accordance with the Biomedical Services Equipment Management Program. Analyzes specifications, performance and safety of medical equipment, products and systems in consideration for congruence to hospital requirements. Assembles, repairs and maintains mechanical, electrical and basic electronic devices according to specifications. Perform electrical safety tests on biomedical equipment using specialized test equipment and instrumentation. Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and Mary Washington Healthcare Associates in person and via phone. Conducts in-service training to Mary Washington Healthcare Associates on the operation and maintenance of general to complex equipment. Documents the introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, corrective and preventative maintenance actions and special requests as required. Installs, maintains, services, modifies, troubleshoots and calibrates a variety of diagnostic, therapeutic and life support devices by interpreting engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations. Diagnoses and corrects system and equipment malfunctions by making necessary alterations, repairs or replacements to ensure that medical equipment and internal circuitry meet specified requirements as instructed. Assists in the decision process providing recommendations regarding the purchase of new biomedical equipment. Meets all departmental performance indicator standards as established by Mary Washington Healthcare for regulatory requirements. Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment. Maintains accurate and timely documentation for medical equipment records. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Develops and implements a plan for professional growth. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Three to five years of related experience to acquire competency in applying biomedical and electronics principles required. Associates Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology, specialized military training or equivalent work experience preferred. Professional Certification for Biomedical Technician or Clinical Engineer through International Certification Commission preferred. Required Physical Requirements:
Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills

Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.
