POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but not limited to: Uses ultrasound to visualize internal cardiac structures, obtain measurements of cardiac valves, ventricle and left atrium and visualize blood flow. Applying non-invasive ultrasound techniques to diagnose blood vein, artery, or vessel diseases or disorders. Assists the physician with complex ultrasound procedures. Collects pertinent data from patient or patient's medical record. Makes duplicate copies of study and arranges delivery of copies of study to outside agencies, as needed, in compliance with hospital policy. Must be able to perform jobs in all patient care and operational areas subject to reasonable accommodations, also be able to employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures. Must participate in the Respiratory Protection Program, which may include the wearing of a respirator. This is a non-union position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services Performance Management Follows department standard in performing cardiac sonography procedures; Obtains cardiac ultrasound per policy and procedure. Performs CPR following standards of American Heart Association, recognizes and appropriately responds to patient medical emergiencies Obtains patient clinical information from the chart and physician. Verifies order and Patient ID per policy prior to procedure. Selects the appropriate transducer and settings of the machine for optimal visualization. Able to position patient to optimally obtain cardiac structures. Ability to expand scope of exam as needed. Ability to assist physician with TEE, Stress and Contrast Echo. Correctly disconnects patients from telemetry monitor and leaves monitor with floor nursing staff. Cleanliness and Safety Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects ultrasound equipment daily to ensure it is operating effectively. Reports any issues/concerns to Cardiac Sonography Supervisor. Knows and practices proper method for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing all equipment used to provide cardiac sonography services Completes required documentation for glutaraldehyde use. Transports patient from their room to Cardiopulmonary Diagnostic Lab and return them to their room safely. Keeps Echo Carts clean and stocked. Cleans exam table and wheelchair; ensures wheelchair is working properly. Safely transports oxygen and medical gas cylinders. Education Acquires and maintains current knowledge in cardiac sonography. Participates in departmental continuing education programs and in activities that will further professional growth. Maintains clinical skills, including competency labs and training. Participates and successfully completes at least 80% of departmental education modules, videotapes, and unit specific training education consistent with their assigned responsibilities. Maintains a current BLS (CPR) Certification. Participates and successfully passes all equipment competency assessments/checklists. Participates and successfully completes 100% of all mandatory educational workshops/classes/modules. Documentation and Transfer of Information Participates in the collection, documentation, and communication of information to monitor quality and effectiveness of cardiac sonography. Maintains accurate and complete documentation and charges of all Cardiac Sonography procedures per department policy and procedures. Possesses the ability to analyze, interpret and communicate complex data. Professional Relations Collaborates with physicians, nurses, the patient and significant other health care providers in providing patient testing. Communicates information regarding the cardiac diagnostic testing process. Patient/Family Education Participates in activities related to patient and/or family education. Professional Accountability Fulfills professional responsibility to Dameron Hospital Association by adherence to philosophy and policy, and offers full commitment to the smooth operation of the work unit. Ethics Decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner. FTE 0.3 - 8hrs - 07:30
Education:
High School diploma or GED preferred Graduate of an approved
Cardiovascular, Sonography or Cardiopulmonary Program Experience:
One (1) to two (2) years of cardiac sonographer experience preferred. Basic computer skills
Licenses/Certificates:
Current BLS Certification ARDCS or CCI certification (graduates must receive certification within one (1) year of hire/transfer)
