Job Summary Following an orientation period, the Cardiac Sonographer I is responsible for independently performing comprehensive echocardiograms and/or bubble studies for adult and/or pediatric patients in outpatient and hospital-based settings. The sonographer demonstrates foundational knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology within the assigned patient population; understands the rationale for each examination; acquires high-quality diagnostic images; and provides accurate preliminary findings in a timely manner. This role supports patient privacy, safety, infection control, accreditation readiness, and compliance with departmental and hospital policies. Responsibilities may change over time at the discretion of department leadership to meet evolving departmental needs. Qualifications Essential Functions Prepare exam rooms and ultrasound equipment in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols. Understand the reason for each patient examination by reviewing the patient history, clinical indication, and prior reports or images. Position patients appropriately and use ergonomic scanning techniques to support patient comfort, prevent personal injury, provide safe and high-quality care, and promote an exceptional patient and family experience. Perform comprehensive transthoracic echocardiograms independently within six months of hire, in accordance with department protocols and assigned patient population needs. Perform ultrasound contrast studies, agitated saline bubble studies, and complex portable studies when indicated and as needed. Acquire high-quality diagnostic images and recognize cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to the examination. Prepare accurate preliminary reports and communicate findings to the interpreting physician in a timely manner. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support all activities necessary to maintain accreditation standards. Assist with scheduling and patient flow as needed to support departmental operations. Meet productivity and volume expectations as defined by department standards. Maintain patient privacy and comply with all patient safety, departmental, hospital, and organizational policies and standards. Perform other duties as assigned.
