JOB SUMMARY
This role performs a variety of specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional procedures that assist in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education & Training:
Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology - Invasive Technologist A.A.S. Degree Program is required. Must hold the national certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS). BLS required. ACLS required within 90 days.
Work Orientation & Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year experience in Cardiovascular Invasive Imaging in a hospital setting preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Visual and hearing abilities sufficient for observing and interpreting technical information provided by a variety of equipment displays, graphic and written sources; sufficient for receiving and understanding job related verbal, technical and medical instructions in a busy invasive cardiovascular environment. Team member must possess the ability to steadily perform procedures in the presence of critically ill patients, highly anxious family members, multiple physician requests, and changing supervisory requirements necessary to serve the patients. Ability to perform diversified duties with time limitations and a high degree of accuracy. Work Experience 1. Performs and assists in cardiovascular procedures according to written protocols and utilizes appropriate technique to provide optimum clinical information for sufficient for physician interpretation. 2. Performs and assists in cardiovascular procedures according to written protocols and utilizes appropriate technique to provide optimum clinical information for sufficient for physician interpretation. 3. Establishes and maintains a sterile field to protect the patient from infection and practices universal precautions. The team member knows and adheres to the hospital and department's Infection Control policy and procedure. 4. Transports patients to and from the procedure room and the prep/recovery area adhering to patient privacy and HIPAA guidelines. 5. Participates in assuring quality patient care through the monitoring of team member/department performance on an ongoing basis , and ensures that the Interventional Angiography/Cardiovascular laboratory complies with applicable laws, regulations and standard of federal, state and local laws as well as The Joint Commission (TJC). 6. Communicates to the healthcare team the plan of care, changes in patient condition, patient progress, and other relevant information and enters this information into the department/s documentation systems as appropriate. 7. Demonstrates competence in performing designated skills within the Interventional Angiography/Cardiac Cath Lab. 8. Promotes patient safety via the provision and compliance of the Universal Protocol policy to identify the correct patient, correct procedure, and correct site, as well as the reason for the procedure, prior to the performance of any invasive/surgical procedure. 9. Assists in training and precepting new departmental team members and ensures that competencies are completed and signed off on in a timely manner. 10. Recognizes and communicates hemodynamic changes sufficient to initiate adequate patient care response. Team member recognizes variety of invasive pressure waveforms and is able to identify them. 11. Monitors and documents the condition and availability of emergency equipment to ensure proper functioning and presence when needed and tags equipment for any necessary repair. 12. Provides for actual and anticipated educational needs of Interventional Angiography/ Cardiovascular patient and designated family spokesperson(s). 13. Reviews next day schedule to ensure that all information/supplies/resources are present to guarantee smooth/efficient workflow. 14. Demonstrates the ability to perform diversified duties with time limitations and a high degree of accuracy. 15. Assists physician in procedures and treatments requiring specific skills (BLS, ACLS) demonstrating the ability and competency to respond quickly and efficiently in emergent situations. 16. Operates job related equipment as intended with results sufficient for appropriate patient care and reports any equipment malfunction to appropriate resource(s). 17. Performs all functions related to the use of radiation. This includes tube manipulation, and table and equipment manipulation, with the exception of producing ionizing radiation, under physician supervision as appropriate, to gain medically useful information and minimize radiation exposure to the patient. 18. Complies with radiation protection guidelines to reduce exposure to self, other team members, and visitors.
