Job Description

Overview Certified Medical Assistant Full Time, 75
Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift Perinatal Overview:
Fort Sanders Perinatal Center, part of Covenant Health, specializes in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies. For more than 25 years, the center has provided expert guidance and advanced services for complex conditions such as multiples, maternal age, diabetes, hypertension, and infertility-related pregnancies. With locations in Knoxville, Morristown, and Sevierville, the team is dedicated to helping families make informed decisions and ensuring the safest possible outcomes for mothers and babies.
Position Summary:
Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioner with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. Responsibilities Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Performs basic nursing procedures such as weighing patients, taking vital signs and listening to fetal heart tones. Performs venipunctures, blood sugars, and other lab procedures as indicated. Retrieves initial basic evaluation of patient and reports to appropriate practitioner. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visit; demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy. Assists physicians or practitioner with examinations, various OB/GYN procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient's medical records. Maintains all required reports, statistics, etc. Assists with filling out lab requests and filing lab results in patient's chart. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations and standards and takes corrective action when appropriate. Assists with cleaning instruments and cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms on a daily basis. Transports instruments to sterile processing as needed. Obtains informed consent after procedure has been explained to patient. Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific needs of the population served. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Attends meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications Minimum Education None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Minimum Experience One (1) year related experience required, or new graduate with less than (1) year experience. Licensure Requirement Certified Medical Assistant required. CPR required.
