Promote digital inclusion by providing technology support and digital literacy education to seniors and people with disabilities across Alameda County sites. About Center for Independent Living, Inc. The Center for Independent Living (CIL), founded in Berkeley as the nation's first independent living center, is a pioneer of the disability rights and independent living movement. Our radical legacy is rooted in peer-led advocacy, cross-disability solidarity, and the belief that all people with disabilities have the right to live with dignity, choice, and freedom. Today, CIL provides advocacy and direct services that increase awareness, collaboration, and opportunity among people with disabilities and the broader community. Our programs equip people with skills, knowledge, and resources to challenge ableism, eliminate barriers, and pursue lives they value.
Description Position Summary:
The Digital Equity Ambassador is a paid internship opportunity designed for individuals with disabilities who are passionate about digital inclusion, accessibility, and community engagement. Ambassadors will complete a 4-week training focused on digital literacy, technology navigation, outreach, and culturally competent engagement. Following training, Ambassadors will be placed at local sites throughout Alameda County to provide technology support and digital literacy education to seniors and people with disabilities. This role also includes professional development through workshops and mentorship to support job readiness and future career opportunities.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide basic technology support to seniors and people with disabilities Assist community members with digital literacy skills and navigating online tools and services Support technology learning sessions at senior centers and community sites, including The Center for Independent Living offices in Berkeley and Fruitvale. Participate in outreach efforts to promote digital inclusion and access Assist individuals in accessing devices, online resources, and essential services Support administrative tasks at the Center for Independent Living office as needed Attend and actively participate in training, workshops, and mentorship opportunities Maintain consistent communication with supervisor and program staff
Program Highlights:

Pay:
$400 per month (monthly stipend) Education and/or
Experience:
No formal education required Lived experience with disability required Previous experience with technology, customer service, or community engagement is a plus but not required Willingness to learn and complete a 4-week training program prior to placement
Qualifications:
Must be a person with a disability Must reside in Alameda County Must be able to pass a background check Must be able to travel to Oakland and/or Berkeley Demonstrated experience working with older adults with disabilities Culturally responsive and respectful interpersonal communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, calm, and adaptable approach Self-directed, with a demonstrated ability to manage time and multiple tasks effectively Ability to work in a collaborative environment with other staff and community partners Excellent organizational and planning abilities, with the capacity to adapt quickly in dynamic environments. Strong problem-solving, curriculum planning, and implementation skills Must have reliable transportation and be available for in-person participation Passionate about digital inclusion and community service Comfortable assisting others with basic technology Tech-savvy or eager to learn digital tools Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Demands :
Must be able to lift 10 pounds Travel to schools and other agencies and organizations when needed Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Salary $400 - $400 per month
