COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICE
The County of Orange , County Executive Office implements policies of the Board of Supervisors, supports County departments, oversees the County's infrastructure and real estate assets, prepares the annual County budget, manages the County's public debt program and assists the public. The County Executive Officer is the highest-ranking appointed executive in the County and works with members of the Board of Supervisors and their staff, elected and appointed department heads and the County's 19,000 employees to oversee the provision of essential government services through 22 departments. The County Executive Office is organized into six divisions: County Operations, Finance, Human Resource Services, Information Technology, Real Estate and Government & Community Relations. CEO aids in supporting the County Departments. There is potential with this recruitment to be placed at different agencies within the County.
THE OPPORTUNITY/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Office of Care Coordination is a division of the County Executive Office and ensures the County of Orange's efforts to address homelessness are coordinated, comprehensive and compassionate by providing leadership, facilitating care for vulnerable populations, and supporting the integration of services in key service delivery areas. It is the goal of the Office of Care Coordination to prevent homelessness for any household at risk and to provide community resources and stable housing for anyone currently experiencing homelessness. The intern position will be stationed out of the County Administration North (CAN) building in Santa Ana CA. Traveling to in-person meetings within Orange County, department hosted events, and limited travel to other Office of Care Coordination offices (City of Orange and City of Laguna Hills). The intern will work alongside outreach and engagement field staff, supervisors, and administrative personnel to gain practical experience in homelessness response systems, coordination efforts, and operational support. This internship opportunity provides exposure to both administrative operations and field-based outreach activities while supporting data-driven programs and community engagement efforts. Assist with data related projects/assignments Shadow/support administrative projects, scheduling, documentation, and organizational tasks Shadow the Outreach & Engagement team during community engagement and outreach efforts Shadow/participate in all staff meetings, trainings, and team briefings as assigned Conduct research and assist with special projects related to homelessness services and community resources Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while handling sensitive information Complete additional assignments and support tasks as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This recruitment is open to applicants pursuing or graduated (within the last 6 months) with their bachelor's or graduate degree. Candidates should have completed coursework pertaining to social services, public administration, public health, psychology, social work, criminal justice, sociology, or related fields. Strong communication and organizational skills Ability to work professionally with diverse populations Basic computer and data entry skills Willlingness to learn in both office and field environments Ability to follow directions and complete assignments independently when needed
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to travel throughout the community as needed Ability to participate in field observations and outreach activities Ability to sit, stand, and work on a computer for extended periods In addition, interns may receive exposure and training in: Homelessness response systems and community resources Outreach and engagement techniques and field safety practices Trauma-informed care principles Professional communication and documentation practices Data collection, reporting, and case tracking systems Community engagement and client interaction skills Time management, organization, and administrative support functions Basic understanding of care coordination and service navigation
TIME COMMITMENT
The internship is in Santa Ana California, with no option for remote work, the hours of operation for the administrative team in the Office of Care Coordination are Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Flexible times and dates to be coordinated directly with leadership/management. Must have reliable transportation to transport to in-person meetings as needed.
