Job Description

Long-Term Care Ombudsman Tracking Code 1476-127 Job Description Under the supervision of the Regional Ombudsman; receive, document, investigate, mediate, and resolve complaints affecting those persons residing in long term care facilities or living independently receiving waivered Medicaid services. Travel within the eight counties of south-central Idaho and make required unannounced facility visits as well as complaint visits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The major duties, responsibilities and accountabilities include: Receive, document, investigate, mediate and resolve complaints affecting residents of long-term care facilities or individuals living independently receiving waivered Medicaid services. Report to the State Surveyor, Adult Protection and Law Enforcement as necessary. Refers to and works with Legal Aid Services to resolve legal issues pertaining to residents. Complete routine unannounced visits to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Work to preserve the health, safety, welfare and rights of residents of long-term care facilities. Advocate for resolution of resident concerns related to their rights. Provide consultation and information to residents, family members, facility staff and members of the community. Maintain a client case load. Ensure client confidentiality is maintained. Provide education to residents of long-term care, families, facility staff and the community. Attend training and meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Ombudsman.
Qualifications/Skills Applicant Must Possess:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent Excellent organizational skills. Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing, database, and presentation programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to relate with people courteously and maintain client confidentiality. Ability to work independently. Demonstrate ability to collect data, conduct interviews and form conclusions. Ability to meet deadlines as requested. Ability to interpret and apply local, state and federal regulations as required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Long-Term Care Ombudsman is required to work full time 40 hours per week, occasionally work or participate in evening and weekend meetings; travel within an eight county service area; and travel out of the area to conferences and trainings as approved by the Regional Ombudsman.
