Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Family Crisis Center (FCC) Shelter Advocate is responsible for daily operations of the emergency shelter facility and providing services for residential clients, related children, and family members. This position helps create a welcoming and safe environment for clients and other guests. This role requires independent judgment and discretion when making decisions related to client safety, service delivery, and shelter operations.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES EMERGENCY SHELTER SERVICES
  • Ensure that emergency shelter services are available and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Practice client-centered, trauma-informed approach to providing crisis services to clients.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, shelter orientation, intake, needs assessment, personal advocacy, referral, and transportation for clients.
  • Facilitate peer support, recreation/group activities, and meetings with clients that address issues related to communal living.
  • Ensure that the shelter is well maintained and adequately stocked with food, janitorial supplies, personal hygiene items, and other items to accommodate the immediate needs of clients.
  • Document services provided, hours worked, mileage, and other activities and prepare reports in order to meet grant requirements.
  • Attend required meetings, training, and other forms of professional development.
  • Maintain organized workspace, accurate records, and attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two or more years of experience preferred in human services, social work, nursing, psychology, victim advocacy, residential environments or other relevant life experiences.
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to work flexible hours.
  • The ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse groups and communicate effectively in a variety of formats.
