Job Description To support the UAB Department of Radiology and the wider UAB Medicine imaging services across the enterprise through the effective application, management, and optimization of imaging informatics systems and services. This role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient enterprise imaging workflows that support clinical care delivery, operational performance, and regulatory compliance. The Manager, Imaging Informatics is responsible for service delivery and quality for assigned enterprise imaging informatics functions, the supervision of designated staff, and collaboration with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to maximize value, adoption, and user satisfaction. Job Specific Duties Serves as escalation point for operational concerns Holds accountability for team performance, mentoring and training junior level system administrators Provides guidance in line with policy and procedures Key Duties & Responsibilities 1. Manages day‑to‑day operations of imaging informatics systems, which may include PACS, VNA, image archives, image exchange platforms, imaging workflows, and related applications supporting radiology and non‑radiology departments. 2. Supports system implementations, upgrades, testing, optimization, and maintenance activities in collaboration with IT, Radiology, and enterprise clinical stakeholders. 3. Monitors system performance, issue trends, and service metrics; ensures timely resolution of imaging informatics issues impacting clinical operations. 4. Supports imaging interoperability, data integrity, and standards‑based integration (e.g., DICOM, HL7). 5. Assists with downtime planning, business continuity, and incident response for imaging systems. 6. Supervises imaging informatics personnel within assigned scope, including task prioritization, work assignments, scheduling, and performance management. 7. Establishes and maintains service delivery expectations and ensures adherence to organizational policies and procedures. 8. Conducts leadership rounding, coaching, feedback, and annual performance evaluations; documents performance and development plans. 9. Promotes professional development and a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 10. Serves as a liaison between clinical users (radiology and non‑radiology), operational leaders, IT, and vendors to support enterprise imaging needs. 11. Acts as a change agent by supporting adoption of imaging informatics initiatives that improve efficiency, quality, and user satisfaction. 12. Participates in enterprise imaging, informatics, and governance committees, workgroups, and project teams as assigned. 13. Supports development and coordination of communication, training, and workflow changes related to imaging systems. 14. Ensures compliance with HIPAA, data security, accreditation, and regulatory requirements affecting imaging information systems. 15. Assists with vendor coordination, contract support, and budget planning activities as assigned. 16. Contributes to development, maintenance, and enforcement of imaging informatics policies, procedures, and documentation. 17. Performs other duties as assigned to meet departmental and organizational needs. Qualifications Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g., Health Information Management, Clinical Informatics, Radiologic Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems) required with Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in imaging informatics, healthcare IT, or clinical imaging operations. Two (2) to three (3) years of people management or supervisory experience preferred. Preferred Skills Experience administering clinical imaging systems in Radiology and Cardiology domain Supervisory Responsibilities Approximately four (4) to ten (10) direct reports.
Knowledge / Skills
/ Abilities Knowledge of imaging informatics systems including PACS, VNA, image exchange, and related workflows. Understanding of healthcare IT and imaging standards (e.g., DICOM, HL7). Familiarity with radiology and non‑radiology imaging workflows across a healthcare enterprise. Strong leadership, coaching, and staff development skills. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to build credibility and collaborative relationships with clinical and technical stakeholders. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion.
