Job Summary:
The Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist will be responsible for facilitating and obtaining physician documentation for clinical conditions and procedures to support the appropriate Severity of Illness and expected risk of mortality and complexity of care of each inpatient. The achievement of this will be through extensive interaction with physicians, nursing staff, coding staff and other members of the health care team and review of all clinical data in the health care record.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in an allied health field of study or Foreign Medical Graduate Five or more years of experience in acute healthcare experience (Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency Care, etc.) Minimum of one year of experience in
Clinical Documentation Integrity Required Certifications, Licensure:
Current/Active RN license in the
United States Preferred Qualifications/Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Two or more years of experience in Clinical Documentation Integrity is preferred ACDIS Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or AHIMA Certified Documentation Integrity Practitioner (CDIP) certification preferred Ability to build effective working relationships with physicians and other members of the health care team Strong clinical background Strong inpatient coding knowledge and application including ICD-10 coding, MS DRG, and APR DRG Knowledge of Patient Safety Indicators (PSI-90), Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC), and Mortality Review Strong oral and written communication skills Strong MS Excel skills Pay starting at: $41.27/hour
