Job Description
Overview The Program Director of Child & Adolescent Therapy provides direct, trauma-informed therapeutic services to children and adolescents impacted by child abuse. This position maintains a balance of direct clinical service, supervision, and administrative responsibilities, while also recruiting, supervising and supporting a team of master's-level interns. This role carries a reduced but active clinical caseload and ensures high-quality, compliant service delivery aligned with agency policy, quality assurance standards, professional ethics, and applicable state and federal regulations. Work is performed under general supervision with significant independent judgment and leadership responsibility. This position exercises independent judgment in clinical and personnel matters and upholds confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all aspects of work. Primary Responsibilities Clinical Service Delivery Maintain a reduced caseload, providing individual therapy to children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their supportive caregivers. Utilize approved modalities including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and/or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Conduct intake and follow-up assessments with children, adolescents and families, to develop diagnoses, and create individualized, trauma-informed treatment plans. Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments for clients in acute distress. Facilitate (develop and lead) psychoeducational groups for caregivers . Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation. Including transition to "Trak" clinical documentation system. Provide expert testimony in court and legal proceedings as needed. Coordinate care with multidisciplinary partners and provide case management, including discharge planning. Supervision and Staff Management Provide clinical supervision to master's-level counseling or social work interns, including licensure supervision where applicable. Review and monitor clinical documentation, treatment planning, and service delivery to ensure quality and compliance. Conduct regular individual and group supervision sessions, case consultations, and performance feedback. Support staff development through coaching, training, and implementation of evidence-based practices. Collaborate with Executive Director to address performance concerns and implement corrective action plans as needed for clinical staff. Recruitment and Workforce Development Lead recruitment efforts for master's-level interns and any other clinical direct report positions, including interviewing and selection. Oversee onboarding and orientation of new clinical staff to ensure successful integration into the agency. Develop and maintain partnerships with universities and professional networks to support candidate pipelines. Collaboration and Community Engagement Collaborate with community partners, including: Victim Witness Assistance Programs Law enforcement agencies Departments of Social Services (DSS) Family Assessment and Planning Teams (FAPT) Schools and juvenile court officials Represent the agency through community outreach, education, and professional presentations. Qualifications Master's Degree in a Behavioral Science discipline (e.g., Social Work, Counseling). Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience providing direct therapy to children and adolescents who have experienced abuse. Prior supervisory or leadership experience (1+ years) preferred, including oversight of clinical staff or interns. Active, unrestricted license in the State of Virginia as one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Valid Virginia driver's license required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of trauma-specific therapeutic approaches for child and adolescent victims of sexual abuse. Proficient in individualand family counseling techniques, including TFCBT and psychoeducation. Understanding of developmental psychology and the emotional and cognitive development of children and teens. Familiarity with co-occurring issues such as substance use disorders within trauma-impacted families. Knowledge of family dynamics, group dynamics, and crisis intervention. Awareness of local services, treatment providers, and community supports for children and families. Competence in completing biopsychosocial assessments and clinical documentation. Ability to develop and implement effective, evidence-based treatment plans. Skilled at building rapport with clients and collaborating across agencies. Ability to provide clear and confident expert testimony in both written and oral formats. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress or emotionally intense situations. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to maintain accurate clinical records. Ability to travel for home visits, court appearances, or community meetings as needed.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
