Job Description

Summary The bariatric surgical clinical reviewer's (BSCR) chief responsibility is to collect and submit reliable data to the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Bariatric Data Registry Platform of 100 percent of bariatric procedures performed at the center. The BSCR works closely with the bariatric program coordinator to identify clinical quality improvement and other special projects. The BSCR establishes an effective relationship with the bariatric and general surgery team and departments, the hospital community including surgery, medicine, nursing, medical record, and information systems departments. BSCR are required to build relationships with individual bariatric surgery offices to maintain support of the program accreditation needs and extraction of reliable bariatric patient data. The BSCR must be able to report data efficiently for quality improvement measures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis. Any other duties as needed to drive to the vision fulfill the mission and abide by the values of the organization. Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care Reporting Accountabilities Data collection and reporting 100 percent of bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in the data registry. Collects preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, and long-term (six month and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems and through coordinated effort with individual surgeon office staff. Aid in the monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of the core requirements of the MBSAQIP Accredited center. Complies and knowledgeable of the MBSAQIP Accredited Center guidelines. Meet at a minimum monthly with the Bariatric Program Medical Director Meet at a minimum weekly with the Bariatric Program Coordinator to discuss program. Report statistical data for ACS bariatric databases and other software for quality improvement and quality assurance. Data collection and reporting of all bariatric procedures into the registry must be accurate and timely. Identifies streamlining and process improvement opportunities to database and utilizes software applications for data collection and analysis. Attends and participates in bariatric staff meeting, morbidity and mortality conferences, interdisciplinary clinical and quality improvement/quality assurance, and infection control meetings.

none Responsibilities BSCR chief function is reporting reliable bariatric patient data to Quality database registry. BSCR requires clinical knowledge of the bariatric patient population and surgeries performed Must have ability to learn and utilize software competently to extract reliable data for database registry Interact and build relationships with multiple hospital departments and the bariatric surgical team. The BSCR will work in the hospital environment, surgeon's office and in the community as needed. Education and Experience Minimum Education:
Licensed Practical Nurse Experience:
Minimum one year hospital surgery department or medical records. Medical and surgical terminology and knowledge required. Proficient in MS Office Word and Excel. PowerPoint and Access experience preferred. Database data entry and/or management experience preferred. Basic statistical knowledge preferred. Employee should be competent in position within 90-days of employment
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:
Metabolic Bariatric Surgical Clinical Reviewer Training Course and Certification Test to enter collected data into the ACS Bariatric Registry Platform at time of hire. Must be recertified annually. Experience Required 1 year(s): experience in hospital surgery department or medical records. Medical and surgical terminology and knowledge required.
